The Temple of Asana
The temple of Asana is bedded down in swathes of dark foliage. Where the broad leaves of rubber plants graze its sloping sides, licks of moisture saturate the pink stone. The breadth of the temple is slashed with these markings; rosy tiger stripes paling in the sun. We remove our gear at the temple entrance (force of habit), and melt into the cool darkness.

Winterthorne
Winterthorne stood alone at the edge of the park. The beautiful snow that had surrounded him was all trampled now, from the feet of all of the children who had built him. He missed the sparkly clean snow blanket, but he was happy that so many children had come out to make him.

Insulated From the World
I left for the coast with the deliberate intention of thinking about nothing. For six months, I had been living inside spreadsheets, conference calls, and the ambient anxiety of markets that refused to behave. My mind had become a clenched fist. I needed sun, salt air, and the mental equivalent of white noise. The resort promised exactly that—an insulated enclave on a turquoise edge of a warm sea. The brochures used the word “sanctuary.” Friends preferred “completely safe.” The website assured visitors that the property was buffered from the “regional complexities” affecting other parts of the country.

This was sell done! The dialogue between the two creatures gave me such a clear image of the scenery and what was happening. Very eerie too.
This is a chilling tale, Jennifer! Misikinebik or Witiko or something else even scarier? I loved the idea of their tasting the blood in the water. Great challenge entry! Good luck!
