— Ai Intrusion ~ Are you Next ~ Is Ai Evolution after your job? —

Few workplaces haven't been affected. Ai is in supermarkets, at doctors' offices, and even monitoring farms. I just can't think of anything this machine is not getting into, can you? For instance: Education ~ Law and Tech jobs will one day have a major influence or be taken over by these inanimate machines, with accuracy and vigor. From mechanics' diagnoses to a wide variety of everyday jobs, including fast food workers, with this input having the ability to cut their unnecessary work hours. I'm certain all of us have been touched by this with our short stories and colorful headings, have you? Even comments are very questionable 'Non-Robot' insertions.

— Having a steady income just gives you one less thing to worry about —

The disappointment can be shattering to be laid off or fired. Most of us have experienced this one time or another, but it hurts more to be replaced by a mere machine, even those once highly recognized within their careers. Do the best you can to research a chosen career to see if it will be available for you once you've spent years preparing for it. If you can't effectively beat them, consider joining them to create programs for this growing invasive institution. This technology will bring about jobs and careers that have not even been thought of.

This generation certainly has its own characteristics: From colorful Tatts splattered all over their body to work ethics, life experience, habits, and even vocabulary. Certainly, there are specific traits relegated to Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and now, Generation Z.

Are you Obsolete —

CAREER CHOICES – What would you like to be NEXT and WHY – Can you derive income from it?

Toss-up your 'Blinker,' just move-on, changing Lanes while watching out for the DriverLess cars; touted as safer than Grandma's Buick!

Have you ever been fired? We never forget that day. 1st reaction of ALL would probably be the overwhelming feeling of rejection - What did I do wrong? Knocks your wind out! Usually our 1st Firing from our 1st job is the most memorable: But, after the initial Firing-Phenomenon, all the following 'Usher-Outs' become old hat - certainly not so dramatic - been there done that 'tude-taken: An emotional shock to your personal inadequacy 'Failure Factor' Department? Then there's the, I've lost that aspect of my sense of purpose and contribution, Nah! We, of course, will miss our co-workers, watercooler chats, and 'workable' comfort zones, but as with all facets of life, it's time to make a change, for better or worse.

Lose your j.o.b.? You may start feeling emotionally unhinged, all of which may 'Pave' the road for chronic physical issues to arise. ReInvent-ReRoute Yourself ~ Zig-Zag ~ No occupational hazards in sight.

— You are You ~ Not What you DO ~ Is your identity clearly wrapped up in your work? Don't fill up on the Cheap Stuff —

After all, your career-job often identifies what it is that you do. But there are those who feel that they identify with 'the job' as an integral part of their being: Others may simply say, "I punch a clock, gotta pay the Rent," nothing more.

Odd to me how many 'Expressions-Descriptions' there are for this type of flash-bang notice. Often depended on the job category, the industry it is taken from, or the lingo from which side of the 'pond' you may be from. But, no matter how this is conveyed, it usually brings out dizzying gut-reactions regardless of the circumstances.

'FIRED' - Made Redundant - Pink slip - Canned - Terminated - Walking papers - Vacate notice and I'm certain there are many less subtle missives blatantly administered. Currently, you might hear: You're not gone yet? Those who are unceremoniously sacked are often helped to box up and then, as I've drawn, shot out the door from a 'Cannon.'

Downsizing ~ Outsourcing 'The Cream of the Crop' ~ efficiency with the minimums, only – No Dead-Weight here – Darwinism: "Survival of the fittest," Indeed! Of course, there's always the First-Time-Ever Quick Lunch with the Boss. The 'Diplomatic' Approach - The Doomsday Talk - Never ends well. Politics (even nepotism) plays a large part in this oftentimes complicated scenario. There are many reasons why someone doesn't work out for a particular position within any venue: Certainly, no question about that.

Most of us have experienced this at least once in our lives – as you continually shake your head – "didn't see this coming!" Out of disbelief, an array of Lumps in Throat-Mad-Glad Revelations: Actually, that 'j.o.b.' just may not have been 'IT' for you; a semi-pain-free rationalization?

Try something different at this stage; mix up your job choices. If you're staying within your vocation—choose an unusual path to utilize it. This 'Life Change' can actually be Way-Better: Was-it-Though a blessing or a curse? Don't run it into the Ditch.

How long did it take you to recover from your 1st Firing? Come-on, we all got dumped at least once. No matter how insignificant that job may have been, it still stung! 'It's easier to fool people than to convince them they've been fooled.' - Mark Twain -

Before all of this AI stuff started, I was a victim of computers taking over. I was Head Photo Specialist at Walgreens. I had to go to a company meeting where they were introducing all of the, then, new technology coming. All of the other Head Photo Specialist thought it was so good. I was the only one to realize that we were being replaced. Now, the company I work for is replacing people with robots.

Entertaining as well as brilliantly-insightful as usual! Excellent job Jay!

Ai should be utilized as a tool like it is versus using it to replace critical thinking. I’ve seen some people depend on it for basic skills and then worry if it is going to replace them, but if you cannot do the basic skill then why would anyone bother with you to begin with?

  • Kendall Defoe 17 days ago

I may share this with my students, as I have warned them that if they get a computer to do the work for them, the company won't need them. Excellent piece, sir!

That feeling of being replaced by a machine is becoming so much more real for everyone. It is a scary thought that the work we spend years learning could just be handed over to an algorithm. I am so thankful that I am retired now and never have to deal with this.

J-bud! Congratulations on yet another Top Story! Love your Schtick Art, as always. I'm not a fan of AI, but it's here, whether we like it or not. We've got massive data centers popping up all over the place here in Texas, and the drain on resources to power them is significant. I wonder who's paying those utility bills!

💖 You have great handwriting and your sketch is pleasing to the eye as always. It is very professional and faultless in your signature style. 💖 I appreciate your balanced thoughts on AI: the idea that if we cannot eradicate it, we must join in to create programs. Your AI grade scale was charming and an opportune moment to show off your next awesome sketch.

  • Hey, J.K. I just published my article that mentions this piece of yours. It's mentioned under the "Human in the Loop" section: https://customer-opinion.top/journal/hired-and-fired-by-a-i%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E I hope you enjoy my selection! It's (cough) a bit of a long read.

I’ve been ousted once. It really sucked and the memory of it still stings. Great story, Jay, well-deserving TS!

AI is taking over more and more roles, legal assistant AI has come to the market this week, it really is shaking things up.

  • What a timely writing. There is so much to say about AI and even more about job "security." I'm actually about to write a piece on how I got fired by AI. Like, I didn't lose a job to AI but rather a terrible AI algorithm did me in.

I try not to think too much about firing. Its a horrid situation for all usually. I do think a lot about AI though, and I, like you I think, am not scared of it. What I am is fascinated by it! It's incredible. It's like having your own personal library that sings and dances and tells shit jokes. I am a big fan of AI ... I am sure back in the day I'd have been a fan of the 1st motor cars and... err.... sliced bread? Perhaps it is a novelty. Perhaps I am shallow. Perhaps I am insufficiently sentimental. I don't know. People will abuse any advantage, but when you get past the human "bot"-ulism, AI is really quite liberating, especially for academic thought and enquiry. Anyway... there's my two-pence worth. Whether anybody wanted it or not! 🤣 Congrats on the TS streak BTW. Impressive. 😁🙌

Jay, you give us all a lot to think about. I've never been fired, but I had to resign from my position last year. Although I much prefer the human touch, as much as corporations bark about productivity, I often laugh to myself, thinking we are not robots. My role, for example, Marriott Operations Manager, sounds great until it isn't. It's a hodgepodge of equal physical labor meets administrative duties with ridiculous standards not meant for humans. AI might be able to make it all seem like a breeze. The only thing it did for me was result in a knee injury. Fantastic read and congratulations on your top story!👏💙😊

Great piece, Jay! I want to see AI replacing my work int he forest. How it's gonna plant trees and brush cut, and apply protection...

Good to see you back at the top, JBud! As usual, your wisdom cracks me up! As someone made redundant only last year, I wonder how the job market will be changed for my kids. I'm not down with AI as a substitute for everything. I like the human touch!

Good topic - well-addressed! And yes, most of us have had the experience. ;)

Dear Jay: Would you believe I've been fired from one job? The rest I quit before I was fired, although I did work one job for 13 years and another job for 10. I've not been able to work since 2017, but as a writer, the rise of AI does bother me. I worry that one day, the only way the poor will be able to make money is at the expense of the rich, and perform (such as they do on the Running Man). Yeah, IK, I'm a little weird, too. MC

  • Calvin London24 days ago

AI is like a technology cancer from which there is no relief. As it slowly gobbles up all the jobs, my question is, what are people going to do? How will they survive if they can't work? Do we become a society of people who just get up each day and do nothing? Thought-provoking, Jay.
