The Content Crossroads
The Two Directions We Will See Define The Future

Content has become strange recently.
The reason is not surprising...
Artificial Intelligence.
Since the introduction of today's version of AI to the masses...
It has spread like wildfire...
But the question is...
At what cost?
If you actually look at many platforms...
We are starting to see that there is a crossroads when it comes to content.
On one side, you have those who are embracing AI.
They accept AI...
They support AI...
They promote AI...
And in more cases it seems...
Are expecting everyone on their platforms to utilize AI tools there.
On the other side...
You have the content purists.
They may allow AI content on their platforms...
But these platforms require disclosure of when AI is utilized...
The AI content is deprioritized and penalized in favor of human-made content...
And people have the option to not see any AI content if they do not want to.
In some cases, AI content is fully rejected.
Now...
Will one of these paths of content become the only path in the future?
Doubtful.
Companies are highly invested in AI...
And some people are highly invested in people...
So the most likely result is that both paths will grow separately.
But what will we see happen?
We are already seeing it happen, but it is only at the early stages.
On the AI platforms...
You will see AI content skyrocket.
Partially because it will be prioritized...
But even more so because it is fast and simple to generate new content.
This, however, is not the only thing we will see...
We will also see a redundancy of content...
It will begin to sound all the same...
Look all the same...
Everything will become...
Derivative...
Both the good...
And the bad.
You will hear the same good advice said in nearly the same ways...
Things that are tried, true, and relatively unquestioned.
You will also hear the same bad advice and misinformation...
Repeated again and again until you believe it to be true because of our own repetition bias.
This will all be furthered...
By the companies who pay the highest prices.
It does not matter the quality of the products or services...
You will see and hear from whoever pays the highest...
Even if their quality is poor...
Or their outcomes are not beneficial to our overall health.
Who will be attracted to this type of content?
People who are not seeking to be challenged...
People who are looking for entertainment...
Those who do not care about quality and are seeking to have their lives consumed in content...
People who are not interested in digging into things deeply.
There is nothing wrong with seeking these platforms for these purposes...
There is an audience for these types of platforms...
And there are companies who are willing to play the pay game.
But what about the other platforms?
On this, not everything will be great...
AI, by its design, finds the greatest common denominator and leans towards the average.
But on a platform by humans and for humans...
You will get some content that is really bad...
Just trash.
Individuals who believe they are the greatest thing since sliced bread...
People who fancy themselves artists creating things that others "just don't understand"...
Some who believe they have figured something out, but haven't really.
All of these will be found on human platforms.
They always have existed...
And they will not suddenly disappear.
However...
On these platforms...
You will also find the greatest of the great content.
With the worst...
You will also find the best.
People who cannot stand the average...
Those who are seeking to move beyond what is already known...
Artistic individuals who genuinely have come up with something unique.
They may be diamonds hidden in the rough...
And it may take work to discover them...
But these same individuals will have their best chances of flourishing on platforms designed for human content.
This also means that those who seek to be challenged...
Who want to change the world in some meaningful way...
That are not satisfied with the fate of the masses...
Will be on the platforms designed for people.
This will become the content crossroads of the future...
The only question you need to ask...
Is which type of platform do you want to be on?

hi Cody, i'm back. Long story. Missed looking at your photo and reading your entries. I'll be writing something soon. Glad to see you're still here. As for AI, I'm terrified, but I know how to deal with change. They keep trying to recruit me to the AI University, but I don't want it. I have a whole different way of integrating that world and the old world in "my world" and I'm not going to waste my time on trying to stay relevant. Relevance is as temporary as the VHS tape was.
Great essay, Cody, lots to think about here. I use AI for research (still have to do a lot of verification though) and some professional tasks like crafting a news release in a hurry. I still love writing my own stuff, though, and think I can tell pretty easily when people submit AI work as their own. AI is like a genie out of the bottle, we have to live with it now and figure out how to make it work for us rather than be enslaved by it.
