Begging
acrostic - plight of Indian Elephants
begin to see the pain, and be
eager to help the Indian elephants
gain freedom from captivity and being
gouged by bullhooks to create fear
🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘
in their long lives, elephants live together
not alone with a human, injured, hungry, begging
give them relief and sanctuary
🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘
Note: Per Wildlife SOS, "PLIGHT OF CAPTIVE ELEPHANTS - In order to convert a wild elephant into becoming submissive to human command, it is forced to undergo a process called “phajaan” or breaking of the spirit. The calf is kept in a confined space without food and water, and is subjected to beatings until it starts following the orders of its keeper. This establishes dominance over the elephant, who out of stress and fear reacts accordingly to the mahout’s command." They are subject to:
Abuse and neglect
Malnourishment
Chronic foot infections
Osteoarthritis
Untreated illnesses
Blindness
Loneliness and boredom
Stereotype obsessive behaviour and PTSD
Tusk trade
They are used to beg along busy roadways, malnourished and sometimes hit by vehicles. You can help by supporting Wildlife SOS. They rescue abused and neglected animals.

You are touching on a very sensitive issue. Animals are sacred to some people and need protection. From the smallest to the largest.
This is very sad. I saw some elephants painted like this a week or so ago, in Rajasthan. I thought they looked sad (anthropomorphising, maybe) and wondered about their treatment. Unfortunately it sounds worse than I thought it might be. Thank you for raising awareness.
Very Inspiring
This broke my heart. I never knew this is how they trained elephants when I saw them at the circus. Such a horrible practice.
This really broke my heart! :(
Such a terrible practice for such a beautiful animal
Such a majestic animal forced into labor. Yet, This is and appears to always be a cultural thing, where it is as normal as having birds confined in a cage, chickens in tiny coops etc.
Awful, I can't even look at it. People are so evil.
This breaks my heart soooo muchhhhhh 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Horrible, horrible, horrible! Thanks for reminding us that more needs to be done, Andi!
