Silence holds the woods today

Just a whisper of wind

Walking North

The soft crunch of dried leaves

Announces my steps

Turkeys roam fields to the West

I climb over fallen trees

Reminders of an old storm

A slow river wanders East

Hidden by vines along its banks

Sandhill cranes fly South

Searching for warmth

Leaving me

Somewhat lost but also found

At the center of this compass rose

    Such rich nature imagery!

Your imagery brings the entire woodland scene alive with such quiet strength. The use of directional movement as a narrative device beautifully anchors the reader in a reflective journey.

You perfectly captured the silent majesty of the woods and the comforting rhythm of nature. Finding yourself "somewhat lost but also found at the center of this compass rose" is such a wonderful sentiment.

Lovely - but a question: the four directions are forming the rose? I like the visuals of no wind and crunch and I can hear the cranes vocalizing as they fly.
