Filling in the cracks

.....

By Jennisea Standing RockPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

Spent all of my life,

Wondering why?

Why can’t I find that missing piece inside

Like a fracture was remodeled wrong,

A shard broken off,

Not there but lost inside.

I wanted to be whole.

But then...

I had you.

My little dragon,

My dove.

Holding you to my breast,

Smiling at the milk-sweet breath

That tickled my neck.

And I felt it.

The missing fragment.

The moment I held you,

The piece began to fill in what was missing.

It may not match,

Not to a perfect T,

But it was there,

Slowly filling in the minuscule cracks.

My abinoojiinyens,

niy zaagi.

There are days when I cannot bear to let you

Leave my arms.

There are days I look at you

And see only the light of the sun.

So soft,

So sweet.

Snoring softly like a cub,

Snuffling in your sleep.

My little joy,

My cub ignites my mama bearness.

My piece of a star,

Burning bright and still blue.

I see it now,

You growing,

Flourishing,

Standing tall one day.

Ready to take on the world.

I spent all my life feeling something was missing.

But now its not.

I found you.

Oh this was beautiful! That “milk-sweet breath” line? I could practically feel the warmth and peace of that moment. Absolute poetry in motion. ✨
