Fire is alive.
It flickers like a thought,
It dances in the breath,
It whispers in voices so warm and soft,
It is a dream.
Fire is changing.
It crackles
it distorts the dark
It makes a woman glow
It dances is whorls and whirls
It twists in blue smoke.
Fire is deadly.
It clogs lungs with soot,
Turns flora black with ash,
Marrs and burns flesh,
And decimates.
Fire is also rebirth.
It is new green, poking out of ash
It is birds singing “all is well”
It is soft footsteps turning ash into food
It is insects buzzing and flitting as they eat
It is creatures returning to start anew.
Fire is fire.
It blazes,
It burns,
It crackles and sizzle.
But it is there,
Glowing bright in dark forests,
in old cold caves,
And warming hearts in hearths.
Fire is life.
Fire is in us all.
About the Creator
Jennisea Standing Rock
I started writing because it was a good outlet for a lot of reasons. But I love writing. I love having others read my work. I love hearing feedback. Someday, I want to turn my work into a book.
