Glass Halo

Verse 1
A glass halo of ego rose above my head and looked like light
As the front pews rose and learned God's cues by sight
And I called this circle truth when I said the words just right
I kept my hands in practiced prayer and let the room decide
Verse 2
I mouthed the printed words until the lines felt like my own
The order taught me when to stand, to pass the plate, to bow
I measured faith by how my chest kept time with every other tone
I held my posture as a proof and learned to wear that vow
Chorus
Glass Halo, you turned my worship into a show
Glass Halo, you made offering a thing only fools behold
I said I had surrendered while I only worshipped the throne
I fed a private hunger that kept me from going home
Verse 3
Then my halo cooled to glass and put my life inside its case
While people around me moved like pictures in a frame
I watched the streets through polished panes and kept a steady face
Praising the clear reflection that I mistook for faith
Bridge
A single question came and asked me, plain and slow:
Did I love the light itself, or only love the show?
Chorus
Glass Halo, you turned my worship into a show
Glass Halo, you made offering a thing only fools behold
I said I had surrendered while I only worshipped the throne
I fed a private hunger that kept me from going home
