I had a dream
Not of a plum job,
jewels or dresses,
nor exotic experiences.
But of a backyard—
a sunny parcel of land
where I could grow things—
flowers and vegetables.
After a long wait,
I finally got one.
I was delirious with joy.
I nurtured the soil
with kitchen refuse,
turning the clay
into fertile black gold.
I planted pea seeds.
They sprouted—
sent out tendrils,
started climbing,
and soon they bloomed.
White flowers opened,
bees visited,
and pods followed.
Every other day,
my kids would take bowls
and pick the pods—
to munch raw,
or for mommy to cook.
It was so rewarding—
fresh and homegrown,
delicious and healthy.
This year’s vines
are just starting to grow.
I can see pods —
just a few weeks away.
I can’t emphasize enough
the joys and blessing of
growing own food.
Try it—
and feel proud.

Me and my sister usually start a garden every year and grow tomatoes mainly, but try other vegetables as well, but living in Louisiana when it gets too hot and constantly watering after the sun goes down I assume the plants get water logged after a while and we only get little in return.
