Happy July 4th
No decorations, but doing duty in other ways
I am not a USA citizen,
barely got the status,
of permanent resident,
after more than a decade,
of limited rights,
as a legal alien.
and painful wait.
But I can tell you this:
I might be loving,
this great nation
more than many citizens.
Yes, I don't decorate
my yard with the tricolor.
I don’t do much,
for Easter, Halloween,
Thanksgiving, Christmas either.
but surely,
I talk about this country
to my citizen children.
And we show our love,
in other ways:
We teach people,
about native flora,
what they can forage
in the neighborhoods,
how artificial scents
are hormone disruptors,
and much more.
We even pick up,
plastic trash.
I raise awareness
by my writings.
That is how,
I love this great nation.

Happy 4th of July, Seema! My mum became a citizen when I was a child. I'll never forget that day. I believe you do love this nation more than many citizens. Mum always told me Americans take too much for granted.
