I Made the Dreams Possible

I was a village girl,

with no privilege,

certainly, no outlook.

I didn’t even know

how sycamore looks,

no foreign languages,

not a word of Spanish.

I had health issues—

infertility, for sure,

having healthy children,

seemed like daydream.

Now I live in California,

roam under the,

shade of sycamores,

with my two kids,

teaching them Spanish.

We are feeling paz,

under the sombra,

of this gran árbol,

on this primavera día,

listening to the

canciones of the pájaro.

The vida is buena.

All this is possible

sensing my strengths,

and deficits too,

working on them,

with rational judgment.
