Learning Regret

an acrostic

Envisage yourself anew, then

cleave to her

like a kitten to milk. Can your therapist bring you nearer than this?

In five years time, I’ll watch as you

pickle depression in Ball jars of your own tears, press

safe twenty-something hopes into a book.

Even I don’t want that.

Acrostic

Reading around to learn about acrostic poetry. Nicely Done!!

Another incredible poem! "Pickle depression in Ball jars of your own tears" makes me think of how we settle in our own sadness, that it's more comfortable to lock our hopes in books and walk away, how regretful the fruits of depression can make us... Truly astounding!!!

Damn, I love how this builds up to that ending! So masterful.

  • Whoaaa, pickled depression! That was so clever! Loved your Acrostic!

Oh if only we knew then what we know now. To witness this, as I am currently doing, is torture.

This just made me sigh, just a big, slightly hopeless sigh.

“Pickled depression!” I absolutely love that entire line. So apt and clever! 😊👏

  • Ah, Mackenzie, in these few lines you capture all the angst of being and wanting to be, all the longing we feel when we are young. Thought-provoking and beautiful!
