My Foraging Love

A beautiful life philosophy

Dandelion flower fritters @Seema

In my life philosophy,

foraging is a sacred word.

When I lived in native land India

it was an alien concept.

There was unspoken rule,

females didn’t go to nature,

academics took my day and night.

But I came to California

in my late twenties.

Females enjoy freedom here

and I had time.

I took to foraging,

my biology knowledge helped.

Over the past fifteen years

so much I have gathered.

When I do it,

it makes me immensely happy,

connecting to ancestors,

easy on the planet,

respect to nature,

no involvement of money,

the root of all issues.

I go to nature walks

without expectations,

just mindfulness,

and bring back things.

Here you see,

dandelion flower fritters —

they turned out well,

me and little son enjoyed each bite.

Below, halved acorns,

which I leached, and turned

to sweet porridge.

My kids chant the word “foraging” too,

and we all feel happy,

as if nature is smiling on us.

Note: Thank you for reading. Do try foraging?
