Nature Medicine

It works wonderfully

Back in those days,

I was very lonely—

an immigrant life, no job,

no kids to get busy with.

After my spouse went to work,

I studied a lot,

reading and writing

until I got bored.

Too early to paint or garden—

I needed health too,

which only can come,

from sunlight and fresh air.

So I would tie my shoelaces,

grab my camera,

and ride my purple bicycle.

I would go where

my heart directed.

I often went to this place

and sat on the boulders,

under the sycamore and alders.

The dappled shade did magic.

I felt peaceful.

I watched the flowers, bees,

bluebirds on the lawn.

Day after day—

I continued this

happy and healthy ritual.

I look back at this lifestyle,

with pride and smile,

it was antithesis of hostile,

our whole being needs

such nurturing elixir,

the nature medicine.
