Attention all, a hush has spread across the world

its cause identified as screens that never sleep

Your devices glow like watchful eyes beside your bed

and the silence they create grows deep

πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»

Reports confirm constant scrolling drains the day

though signals stay strong and everything seems fine

Connections waver, thinning out along the way

until the heart and soul walk a lonely line

πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»

Effective now, all citizens are urged to leave their rooms

to walk outside where unfiltered breezes roam

Ride bicycles without a single ping or buzz

let the nature around you call you back home

πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»

Dinner parties are recommended weekly by the Board

with phones surrendered to a drawer for safekeeping

Conversations may feel awkward at the start

but warmth returns while laughter’s leaping

πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»

If hearing someone’s real voice startles you at first

stand steady as the moment passes by

This is a normal symptom of prolonged device exposure

and it fades away the more you try

πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»

Remember, parks remain available for human use

their pathways built for footsteps, not social media feeds

The city still welcomes your presence in its streets

and nature has something waiting to fulfill your needs

πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ’»

This concludes the formal notice filed today

though one unofficial line must still be read

loneliness thrives not from lack of connection

but from living through a screen instead

For Fun

Outstanding work, Sara! I make a point of monitoring my tech time, and I cannot imagine living without quality time spent outside in nature. Congratulations on your win! Remember, I told you before that you were one to watch on this platform. I am extremely pleased to see your name at the top of these results.🌹

This is spot on, and beautifully said! Wish I’d seen it sooner but I was glad to see your name show up as a winner on the challenge announcement :) Great work, well deserved win! And not for nothing, this is a sentiment that the modern reader absolutely needs to internalize, so in addition to the legitimate value of the poem as art there’s a vital message in your announcement itself.

πŸ’–The cadence of this announcement was impeccable. As I moved through the internal rhythm, I was struck by the visceral way the bicycle gears sounded in my ear, perfectly capturing the absence of a digital 'ping' or 'buzz'. πŸ’–You successfully made the outdoor world seem more enthralling than our screens. The pathways built for footsteps were brilliant; it’s as if the physical world has become alien to us. Placing that side-by-side with social media highlights the chasm between reality and the virtual.

Devices glowing like watchful eyes is a creepy image, and scarily accurate! Great work!

Lover it, Sara. We have all become slaves to the mobile phone and technology. All the pastimes that mattered seem to have disappeared.

  • "If hearing someone’s real voice startles you at first" Omgggg, of we ever reach this stage, we're a lost cause. Loved your poem!
