Swallows and the Little Boy

Mommy's story on

'The Witch and Kind Girl',

got Top Story.

Mommy was sharing the happy news,

with little daughter,

who was the kind girl in the story.

The little son Saahil asked mommy,

“Can I be in a story with witches too?”

Mommy said lovingly, “Sure, son —

but not in a witch story.”

We do not repeat.

In another story, on swallows

you will be the guardian angel".

He understood what mommy meant.

Every spring, from South America,

swallows return to California.

They build mud nests under the roofs.

Then comes July 4th, chicks in the nests,

ignorant, people burst firecrackers.

The sound, the sulfur smell,

become terror for the chicks,

nobody knows or cares,

but mommy's empathetic heart cries.

We need awareness to help migratory birds,

so little Saahil holding is plush toy,

went door to door,

telling people not to burst crackers

near the swallow nests.

“The chicks will be scared,

some of them may die.

They have come from far.”,

he said, pleading.

“Would you like it if your own child

breathed polluted air?”

People doubted him,

he was just three and half,

butbhe stood firm.

“My mom is a published biologist,”

he said.

“And I am on my way

to be one too.

Nature steward like Attenborough.

You better believe."
