The Casket of Regret
A Villanelle

Upon the midnight's mournful air,
A spectral voice finds my ear,
The memory I cannot bear.
It speaks of all that was so fair,
A love that vanished, swift and sheer,
A spectral voice finds my ear.
I wander through this cold despair,
This lonely crypt, this chilling fear,
The memory I cannot bear.
A raven in my heart, I swear,
Sits brooding on a silent tear,
A spectral voice finds my ear.
With shadows as my sole repair,
My sanity grows thin and sere,
The memory I cannot bear.
This grief, a weight beyond compare,
Will haunt my soul from year to year,
A spectral voice finds my ear,
The memory I cannot bear.

I love the refrains as they work so well together. Great job!
