We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.

What an Olympics, am I right?! The 2026 Winter Games in Milan saw the NHL players participate for the first time in a dozen years, and regarding the Colorado Avalanche, eight of our players were in Milan representing five countries. Six of the eight left Milan with medals. Artturi Lehkonen and Joel Kiviranta received Bronze Medals representing Finland. Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Devon Toews received Silver Medals representing Canada, and Brock Nelson received a Gold Medal representing the United States.

At the Brewster Ice Arena, the Avalanche didn’t wait long to start. They were on the board after only 18 seconds, and the tone set, Marcela Maurice was left beaming all the camaraderie that paved the way for an easy 8-0 victory.

Recapping the 2026 Gold Medal Game
February 22, 1980. Every American knows that date. Every diehard hockey fan knows that date. The ragtag American team took the ice at Lake Placid against the heavily favored heavyweight Soviet Union team. Against all odds, the US won that game, 4-3, and made the career of this announcer named Al Michaels, who spouted the famous, "Do you believe in miracles?!" line. The US went on to defeat Finland to win the Gold Medal.

Johnny Gaudreau: A Small Star Who Skated Big Dreams
Hockey has always loved its giants. Big bodies. Heavy hits. Long reaches. For years, size felt like destiny in the NHL. If you were smaller than the rest, you were expected to fight twice as hard just to stay on the ice.

2026 winter olympics women single skating free skating. AI-Generated.
A Stage Set in Italy The 2026 Games mark the return of the Winter Olympics to Italy for the first time since 2006. With global audiences watching, the women’s single skating competition will take center stage in a country that values art and expression—two qualities deeply connected to figure skating itself. The free skate, longer and more demanding than the short program, offers skaters the opportunity to tell a complete story through movement, music, and technical precision.

YouTube Outages. AI-Generated.
For billions of people, YouTube is more than a website. It is a classroom, a stage, a newsroom, and a source of daily entertainment. So when the platform experiences an outage, the disruption is felt immediately and globally. Creators lose revenue, viewers lose access to information, and businesses lose a vital marketing channel. A YouTube outage may last only minutes, but its ripple effects can stretch far beyond that window.

A Stern, Yet Heartfelt Letter to Maple Leafs Fans
To any fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs, I have this to say: I hope it was worth it. I tried to tell you. I begged the Leafs not to do this. But on June 30, 2025, they did it. They actually traded Mitch Marner. Second-in-command on the Leafs for years, and they dealt him away. Even worse, they traded him for Nicolas Roy. Oh boy. I've said this before in past Vocal stories. I'm an Avalanche fan, not a Maple Leafs fan. However, I consider myself a sympathizer of the Maple Leafs because the team has been ridiculed for their long Stanley Cup drought, mainly by fans of teams who never won one. Those same fans call the Maple Leafs "choke artists," forgetting the fact that teams like the Oilers blow it much worse.

In the rapidly evolving world of men’s figure skating, new names continue to challenge established stars. Among them is Mikhail Shaidorov, a Kazakhstan skater whose steady rise has drawn increasing attention on the international stage. March of the 2025-26 Penguins
One of the many things that fascinates me about Pittsburgh sports is that they keep coaches for a long time. It's not just the NFL's Steelers, the NHL's Penguins hold on to coaches as well. Yet the city saw themselves in a very rare position, as it saw two of their three franchises move on from their longtime coaches in a span of less than a year. The bigger story was Mike Tomlin resigning as Steelers head coach after 19 seasons, but months prior, Mike Sullivan was relieved of his duties as Penguins head coach following the end of the last regular season, which saw the Penguins miss the playoffs for the third straight season.
