He smiled at her before he turned in his test, and it took all her restraint to not jump up and kiss him. Some guilt was eating her away, though. She had no idea what to do. Blake had been a total jerk to Silvia and then had done something to Lucita. She still couldn’t fight the thought that drifted into her mind.

Cyrus’s mother got into the car and gently touched her shoulder before she started the car.

Lucita sat curled up in bed, waiting for the sun to rise. She hadn’t been able to sleep a wink the night before. Instead, she had stayed up all night reading and eventually finishing her book. The book had been so good, sending her mind on an adventure and making her heart race with anticipation, but the ending came, and it broke her heart.
