Every year in my 30's - 45 or so, I took three trips a year into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). Once a year it was a girls trip, which I loved as we would paddle in, find a quality campsite and stay there, taking day trips from that campsite. I thoroughly enjoyed these trips as we would go in just a little ways and then packing up and paddling out on the last day wasn't work. Fun times. In those early trips my friend Mary, was our leader and planner. Once I became familiar with the process, I could lead a trip. We had a favorite campsite that had the right cross breeze to keep the mosquitos away and it had a nice rippling stream that we took air mattresses down. So much fun in the sun and water.

You Don't Need Make-Up
I grew up never wearing much makeup and in my twenties, even less. Then there were children, I birthed two and my husband was a practicing alcohol/drug addict. When we were getting divorced and the judge mistakenly said, "And you have three children," I pointed at my soon to be ex-husband, laughed and said, "yes, I did have three, until today!" The ex didn't think that was very funny. How did I get to the point of divorce. I was married to this man for 13 years and we were together for 15 years. I knew from our early dating that he had a problem with alcohol. I was used to alcoholics. That is who I loved and continue to love. I grew up as a codependent, as the saying goes. And what does this have to do with makeup? Well, I am here to tell you.

Rosie, The Family Cat
Rosie was staying at the veterinarian clinic that my daughter worked at as a part of her high school program. Joanna met this little Siamese kitty that was not happy to be at the vet clinic, and she heard that it wouldn’t be long, and that kitty would be gone.

Back In The Woods
I always enjoyed spending time with my cousins when growing up. We would play Tarzan and Jane and our youngest sister was Cheetah. We had told her we picked her up at the zoo, so she was a willing participant. And of course I was Tarzan. We spent many days when we were young playing on the farm. We are close to those cousins to this day. I always like seeing them and catching up on what they are doing in their life. In the next town I would spend time with a couple other cousins close to my age. One of those cousins lived with me when I was a single dad with my sons. The boys hated that as he would always tell on them or stop them from watching their favorite television shows. I didn't mind because as a parent of teens, it takes more than one pair of eyes to watch over them. The cousins really are some of my favorite people.

The Neighbors Pond
When I was young, we had neighbors that lived across the street from us. Every year my friends dad would start the pond, as he referred to it. My friend was a figure skater and I hadn’t decided if I would be a figure skater or a hockey skater. One problem was girls didn’t play hockey back then. This was in the sixties and I didn’t know any girl that played hockey. The other problem was that I knew I wasn’t about to be a figure skater, as I was too darn clumsy. If it was today, I would’ve had to wear a helmet, and knee pads especially. Instead, now I have beat up looking knees and possible brain damage. Well, I can’t really say the brain damage is from skating but you never know. We would have so much fun, skating to “Oklahoma” and “The Sound of Music” tunes. My friend had the record albums of both. When we were eleven or maybe twelve, we would skate all day, some days. Then in the summer we would dance and act in “Oklahoma” and “The Sound of Music” and when we tired of that, we would look forward to skating weather and talk about that until we tired of that too and I would go home.
