Gulo's Thermal Spa Treatment
We finally got to the thermal spa that we've been wanting to visit for two months. I formed a party of four that included my niece, myself and two of my teaching colleagues, Katie and Anna. I reserved a room for one hour for 3-5 people that had a hot and cold pool and a sauna for 200 GEL ($75), which is a decent price when you split it for four people.

Ali and Nino in Batumi, Georgia
I've been wanting to see this statue in person forever. I finally did, last weekend (February 7, 2026). My niece, who is staying with me and will be leaving in a week, desperately wanted to go to a sea (she has been to lakes, ponds, rivers, and oceans but never to a sea) so we decided to make a short trip to Batumi, the third largest city in Georgia (after Tbilisi and Kutaisi) located on the Black Sea shore. It is also a capital of Ajara, one of the regions of Georgia with a distinct culture and traditions. And the favorite place for Russians who fled Putin's war in Ukraine. In our short stay there, we heard a lot more Russian than Georgian in the streets of Batumi.

Georgian Cooking Class
I've turned 56 today and my niece, who is visiting me in Tbilisi, gave me a most wonderful birthday present - a Georgian cuisine cooking class taught by a wonderful chef Karolina. Before retiring, she used to be a tour guide, so we had a pleasure of not only learning how to cook traditional Georgian dishes but also of listening to her stories about Georgia and its culture.

Sisyphus’ Punishment
I’ve been doing this for three thousand years. At least that's what I estimate, more or less. Can’t tell more precisely because I lost count of days and nights. With this job, you would too, anyone would. Yes, I have to roll this huge rock up not only during the day but at night, too. Up and down, up and down. I roll it up, almost all the way to the top, it rolls down under its weight and I have to start over.
