Scarecrow Scare
Every year, the town held a Scarecrow Contest. Open to everyone in the town, regardless of age, all of the citizens of Lost Lake were encouraged to create a scarecrow for display on the town green. The contest opened October 1st and continued until Halloween, when the panel of judges would choose the winners. There were plenty of categories for the prizes, from Cutest to Most Colorful to Best in a variety of age-ranges, and - of course - Scariest.

He hated walking past the vacant lot. He walked to work every evening - he worked the night shift - and the lot was in between his apartment and his new job. He couldn’t avoid it without going a long ways out of his way, but he hated walking past it. It wasn’t the lot, so much. It was the cats.

Fairy Tea
Deep in the forest, a tiny teapot and cup sat on a polished stone table. Chiara gazed up at her grandmother in wonder. “It’s here!” she whispered. “It’s really here!” She peered around her, eyes wide as saucers. “The stone table is all set for the fairy tea party! But where are the guests?” she asked.

Dreams
The nightmares began when I was ten. They were always the same. They were always terrifying. Someone chased me, threatening, wanting to kill me. I would run from him, but I could never get away. He was always there, right behind me. “You should be dead,” he would hiss. I would wake, heart pounding, frozen by fear.
