The Note
Strips of paper fly wildly in the wind. Pieces of a memory, a message disappearing into the world beyond. They swirl around like a magical mystery, dancing to unknown destinations. No one will know now the secrets that were written in the dark. The memory of what was forgotten. The pieces fly far and wide away from each other. Soon they’ll be completely destroyed by the natural elements. This message could have changed so much if only someone had been able to read it before he changed his mind. Now it is lost. Now no one will ever know. Now the current path of the grey mundane will continue.

The Runner
Thud. Thud. Thud. The drumming in my chest matches the pounding of my feet. The road is long, my muscles are sore, but I can’t stop. I can never stop. The constant movement is barely enough to keep it all at bay. I can’t risk letting the damn break. Every image to my left. Every memory to my right. Trailing along without breaking a sweat. My eyes sting and my body reeks of perspiration. But I have to go on. I have to keep pushing.

The Mind
What a horrifying thought to be left alone with your own mind. Swimming alone in the emptiness of space only to find you are not alone. Something else, something unseen, unknown is swirling around coming closer. Whispering in the dark, messages of the true reality. Nothing was ever what it seemed. Nothing was like they told you. They wanted you to forget. They wanted you to stay simple, powerless, useless. But in the darkness, you feel it. You feel the eyes watching you and the strange faces melting in the blackness. Do you understand what it’s like to be afraid of your own mind? You will.

Benjamin Brady & The Grand Affair
“Hey Lilah!” Ben called as he crossed the parking lot in three easy steps. Did I remember him? Barely. Last time I saw him, he had seemed like such a little kid. Now he was definitely not. The beauty of his face and his developed muscles caught me off guard almost as much as the hug he swept me up into.

The Maiden & The Selkie King
The waves crashed lazily against the shoreline as Bridgett stared into the diamond water. Her bright hair whipped around like a blazing fire in the wind. The allure of the water and the impatience for her father’s return kept her sitting on the water’s edge for hours at a time. She counted the bobbing heads of dolphins and seals, noting the differences in their color and shapes. She thought about the stories her father told her about mermaids and sea monsters. Such grand adventures he had! She wanted to be a part of them and share in the adventures of such creatures. She’d often let her mind wander far off into the sea, where creatures would bring her in on dangerous adventures, or she would find her one true love. In her mind, she willed these stories to be true. She dreamed desperately of a time when she could join her father on sea voyages.

The Family Agreement
He inhaled lightly at the opening of the bottle. He let all the flavors permeate his nostrils. Cherry. Smoky oak and a hint of vanilla. He could already taste hints of the liquid on the back of his tongue. The scent lingered around the bottle and heightened as he poured it into the glasses in front of him. It had been a rough day for all of them. His wife and her sister had already started begging for wine before they’d started cooking dinner.

Garyorgy Effect
“Consciousness is a philosophical construct.” “Perhaps. Consciousness: There is debate about what qualifies as ‘true consciousness’. Some argue that higher reasoning and the ability to dream are key components of consciousness. Understanding the difference between right and wrong.”

Time Master
I supposed this was what I had wished for for a long time…. I had spent many hours letting my mind run wild on what I would do if I ever gained such magical powers. It felt like a dream, like all my problems would be solved if I could just have this one gift. But this was reality, not the fantasies I read about. Wishes were supposed to stay just wishes; they weren’t supposed to come true. Not that I complained when it happened… I just couldn’t get over the shock.
