The Other Side
There was only one rule: don’t open the door. She stared at the foreboding, rusted metal slab towering in front of her. Curiosity continued to gnaw. Unanswered questions lingering as she tried to suppress them. Her Aunt told her never to go near it, but she never said why. It was not to a room.

Dark Warnings
There was only one rule: don't open the door. That was like waving a bright, flashing sign in front of me saying "Open me." The temptation was unbearable as I continued to explore my great-grandmother's home. This was the first time I'd ever been to visit the family home in my life. It wasn't until my mother passed away that I went there to share the news with the family she had left. I didn't realize it was only one sister that remained.

Signing Away Our Rights
Terms of Service agreements are all over the place these days, people are asked to agree to them before any service sign-up can be completed. These standard agreements were previously intended to protect companies providing the service(s) against frivolous lawsuits and protection from liability. Generally, the terms of service agreements that people were required to sign laid out the restrictions regarding a service or product and its intended use. Terms of service agreements have always been very long and wordy with a lot of complex language and phrasing that can confuse those who are not attorneys or familiar with legalese. Most people are accustomed to signing these agreements without fully reading them and most never had any issue later.

Secrets. Content Warning.
Have you ever looked back and thought about lies you told and secrets you kept in the past, and wondered why you told them or kept them – especially the ones that should have never been kept? She did. Everyday. Out of all of her past secrets and lies, there is one time in her life that stands out above the rest. One period where all she kept were secrets, and all she spoke were lies.

When Errors Become Required
I remember the strong emphasis my instructors placed on using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation while attending school. My English and Creative Writing instructors were very focused on instilling the importance of this as one of the biggest parts of being a successful writer. I was taught that success as a writer hinged upon ensuring there were no errors in your writing because even if you wrote a great masterpiece, it would suffer due to errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation. What my instructors could not prepare for is the unfortunate and difficult reality facing writers today - AI.

Reflections After 23 Years. Content Warning.
Everything Was Normal - Until it Wasn't The day began just as any other would for most people in the United States. People were starting their day, heading to work or school, their normal routines. When 8:46 a.m. arrived, no one was prepared for what was about to unfold. One young mother, Lisa, had just dropped her child off at school and was on her way home when she heard something on the radio about an explosion in New York. Lisa wondered what was going on as she arrived back home and went inside the house to turn the news on. She was not prepared for what she saw when she turned the television on at 9:01 a.m. and saw the flames and smoke from the first tower. As she watched and listened to the reports of a plane hitting the tower, she thought it was a terrible accident - until at 9:03 a.m. when she watched as a second plane flew into view on the television screen and crashed deliberately into the second tower. Her heart shattered as she stared in disbelief at the screen, silence on the air as people struggled to comprehend if they had truly seen what their eyes told them they saw.

Denial of Care
Ray is a 50-year-old truck driver who has been unable to get insurance due to the high cost based on his profession and past medical history. His wife previously held insurance until she lost her job after her health issues interfered with her ability to perform her job. Those health issues never were fully resolved before her insurance ended after she was let go due to not being able to fully perform her job “requirements”. This left both of them uninsured and struggling to make ends meet on one income and a difficult job market has not helped them recover since his wife has been unemployed for several months now, despite several interviews and hundreds of job applications being sent out.

Loving More Than One . Content Warning.
Society teaches that intimate relationships are meant for two people. You meet, fall in love, get married, have kids, and spend your lives together. Sometimes it works out, other times it doesn’t, and you divorce and move on with other people. I never viewed love and relationships in this narrow-viewed mindset. Growing up as someone who often experienced connections to different people at the same time, regardless of gender, I always felt like something was wrong with me. There were never any books or movies I could connect to because they always portrayed a person who loved more than one as a cheater and villain. I felt ashamed that I could love more than one person at a time in a different way.
