Flight of the Phoenix
The magnificent fiery red phoenix rose majestically from the burning embers of her predecessor's ashes. Her golden-green flecked head, its august tendrils rising, still burning, billowed from the splendid crest of her head. The strikingly spectacular widespread wings of the mighty bird mirrored the golden colors of her upper body, held high in pride and triumph. Xinnia's immortality had been once more renewed with the warmth of the life-giving sun blazing overhead.

OUTBREAK!

They were on time, all passengers were accounted for, all preparations had been made and with the sun shining brightly, the aircraft had lifted off into the sky.

Granny Grimpin's flying Fortress
Grimpin's Flying Fortress floated high above the clouds. It was a fairly clear day and one would catch glimpses of birds flying below and betwixt the intermittent parting of the billowing, wispy canopied whiteness below. Granny Grimpin, as everyone fondly called her, was snoring at the controls again. Luckily, Mavre was wide awake. Mavre was Grandma Grimpin's granddaughter, she was only eighteen years old, but she had the same wandering, independent and stubborn streak as her grandmother. Mavre adored the adventurous, snoring, and kindhearted woman leaning against the window, nodding off again.

Amelia and I
As usual I had slept rather badly. Whenever my brain caught the slightest whiff that something exciting or otherwise was about to happen, it clicked into adrenaline drive. That always meant that sleep was no longer my best friend. I had tossed, cussed, turned, yelled at sleep, begged it to please visit. All to no avail.

Why you should love vultures!
Vultures may not be the prettiest of birds. They are scary and they dine on dead things. But like everything created upon this earth, they have an important and necessary function. There are 23 extant (meaning still alive, as opposed to extinct, no longer living) species of vultures (including the Condors), 16 living species of Old world vultures, restricted to North and South America, and seven unidentified species, all belonging to the Cathartidae Family.
