Government Economic Forecasting, Mythology, or Science?
As a retired estimating and costing engineer, I see so much reliance based on estimates that cannot possibly have a shred of accuracy; by accuracy I mean the engineering estimators allowance of + or – 2%. One quote I saw today is, unfortunately, true: the economic forecasting from British bureaucrats makes astrology look a science.

Is Government by Artificial Intelligence the Way Forward?
Are we to be governed by artificial intelligence? Could this be worse then present political bigotry? At present, most democratic nations are governed through some form of political party system, with the result that an election can mean a change of direction, for the economy and governing attitude towards everything. Then 5 years later it gets reversed and all political directions are changed again.

Equality and the Law
Equality and Law I see many calls for equality and I fully support the idea that any given amount of time, effort, skill, success, training, ability and application, should have one reward regardless of who is performing the work and expending the effort. All people should also be equal in Law.

Personal Responsibility and the Law
I read in the press of so many situations where a person claims they were drunk and so could not have given consent to a subsequent act. If the media is to be believed, and this is increasingly unlikely, lawyers appear to be trying to persuade the courts that these claims are valid in law.

Pollution and Packaging
Pollution and Packaging Pollution is defined as—to contaminate, as with poisonous or harmful substances. Deciding what is harmful is not as easy as many will think. Consider light pollution. Anyone walking a street in the dark will not think of street lights as harmful, yet a night sky watcher will consider the light as a pollutant. The food processing industry does not consider the gases and packaging materials they use to prolong the shelf life of their products as harmful, yet many health-conscious people do.

Allowing Totalitarian Regimes to Take Over
The causes of totalitarian regimes taking power: In Germany, between 1930 to 1940, there was starvation, there was extreme poverty, there was total despair, and no one did anything to help the suffering except one man who came along in the name of the National Socialist Party. He promised salvation, food, strength, power, and pride. What would you do? Assume you have no knowledge of history, you are living in despair, and your children are starving. Would you follow someone who gives hope? You have nothing to lose.

Harm By Accusation
I see many examples of demands that someone should make amends for “harm done” in the past. Allegations are treated as if they are irrefutable fact. The accused is publicly punished. No trial by peers, no detailed examination of actual evidence. No examination of context or of the social normality prevalent at the time of the alleged “offence.”
