The Swimmers Movie Review
The plight of refugees and displaced citizens is a difficult global challenge, one that persists through many modern conflicts. One perspective that stands out among the millions is Yusra Mardini, a Syrian who crossed the Aegean Sea and eventually competed in the Olympics Refugee Team. Directed by Sally El Hosaini, The Swimmers tells her story while conveying the plight of displacement in the process.

Andor Series Review (Season 1)
Of the many releases from Disney’s Star Wars catalogue, Rogue One obtained the highest recognition from fans. The 2016 film offered a more rugged and gritty take on the rebel alliance, opening the door for new creative directions. The latest small screen effort focuses on Cassian Andor, a key player in the hunt for the death star plans. It has problems here and there but offers up a capable adventure.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Movie Review
Marvel’s Black Panther drew a ton of fanfare in 2018, being widely praised for its blend of tradition and historical trappings. Following the unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman, Wakanda Forever was forced to strike out in a different direction. Luckily, Ryan Coogler and company have crafted an enjoyable follow-up that makes the most of the remaining pieces.

Enola Holmes 2 Movie Review
Based on the young adult stories by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes was a delightful surprise in 2020, delivering a smartly written and well directed mystery for the whole family. Two years on and the follow-up creates another charming tale with only a couple of stumbles.

All Quiet On The Western Front Movie Review
Of the many anti-war films, All Quiet On The Western Front from 1930 is perhaps the biggest pioneer. For the time, it was a staggering look at what was the most destructive conflict ever fought. Nearly a century later and a modern update has arrived from Germany. While it does nail the big picture, I wasn’t fully invested in this remake.

Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power Series Review (Season 1)
Few fantasy adaptations are as revered as The Lord of The Rings. Between 2001 and 2003, Peter Jackson’s trilogy was a masterclass in fantastical imagination, bringing J.R.R Tolkien’s creation to life in stunning fashion. Some two decades later, Amazon is banking big on this property with The Rings Of Power. It had some potential, but the new series doesn’t amount to anything more than a pretty picture.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Series Review
In 2020, one of the most highly anticipated video games of all time landed with a dull thud, let down by its poor technical state and hollow RPG mechanics. Be that as it may, CD Projekt Red, in collaboration with Studio Trigger, have pressed on to expand the game’s world and reach with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Many will be very surprised to learn that this ten-episode series is far better than the title that inspired it.

Prey Movie Review
The iconic but often neglected Predator has ran into serious trouble recently. After the mess of 2018’s The Predator, the series is taking a cautious approach on Hulu and Disney+. The new small-scale release from Dan Trachtenberg ends up being a powerfully effective piece; one destined to rejuvenate the IP and overcome the doubters.

Bullet Train Movie Review
After making his debut with the impactful John Wick, director David Leitch has swerved into more bloated action productions. Bullet Train tips itself as the next big action-comedy; instead it is dragged down by a hackneyed story and weak characters.

Stranger Things Season 4 Review (Volume I and II). Top Story - July 2022.
As the biggest show on Netflix, Stranger Things has reached a gargantuan level of popularity. Unlike other creations from the platform, it has regularly succeeded at getting us fully invested in the story and characters. The highly anticipated fourth chapter has arrived; going both deeper and darker than previous entries.

Elvis Movie Review
Musical biopics have attained strong recognition in cinema with the likes of Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody drawing high praise from audiences. Elvis 2022 is not the first time the legend has been brought to the big screen, but it is the most high profile. It certainly delivers on the musical highlights, but ends up skipping over the dramatic elements behind the entertainment.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Review (Season 1)
Under Disney’s stewardship, Star Wars has faltered on the big screen, but has found greater success on the small-screen format in recent years. Following on from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi has been highly anticipated for years. It’s a shame then that this tale will leave you wanting.
