Windy City Ice. Top Story - December 2023.
Sitting at a bar in Chicago, Jake called the Windy City Ice hotline. His grandfather’s voice answered. “If your Windy City Ice machine is currently malfunctioning, leave your name and contact number after the beep. Our licensed service technician will contact you shortly. Windy City Ice is a family-owned company, and we care about our customers.” Jake hung up and returned to writing The Siren Under Highway B.

A Ticking Library and the Best Seller
[TW: fictional book burning] If a ticking bomb under the table propels a plot forward, so too will a deadline on the wall spur the creation of literary excellence, Keith Highfield thought as he signed the death warrant of the Highfield Library. The intricate interplay between danger and creativity is a delicate balancing act.

Sam Altman at The Altar of Strong Opinion
I had lunch at McDonald’s last week. I was there mostly because I love the Fillet-O-Fish. I order it each time I visit. It tastes melt-in-your-mouth amazing, and it's healthier than the burgers, there’s a bit of fish buried inside all that deep-fried breading.

Gluten Is What Makes This Nation Stick Together. Top Story - November 2023.
In Hoboken New Jersey, Felix lied to his wife Luna that he was going out only to pick up the sandwiches. Luna was very patriotic about wanting to eat sandwiches for lunch. He knew her preferences well. In the three or four years since they had been married, he couldn’t remember a time when they had ever argued about anything. Next year, they even planned to make a baby.

Standing Up for Sitting Out
“You MUST stand against Hamas,” someone tells me, “Stand Up for Palestine!” another insists. After watching a dozen YouTube videos on the history of the region and the conflict, I still can not decide. Analysts from both viewpoints make perfectly rational arguments why their side is correct and just. I've spent hours flip-flopping from being terribly outraged at one side, and then the other, and feel I am no closer to making an informed decision on 'where I stand' than when I started. I'm exhausted, outraged, and want to shout at everyone. I need a breather.

An Unseen Path. Top Story - October 2023.
Emma felt the warmth of the sun on her face. She stood on the soft grass at Bear Grove Park, and took a deep breath of the crisp spring air. Being matched with a running guide that day was her first step on the road to running the Springfield marathon.

Are You a Farmer Too?
Playing Fortnite everyday to complete the 3 daily goals feels more important to me than anything else. Getting those 45,000 points, or else they will disappear if I don't claim them. What are those points used for? What are their significance? I have been playing for months, and I don't know. The only thing I do know is that I want more "XP". I must hoard.
