The album was put together by Alan McGee's Poptones label as a starting point for mainstream listeners. The album spawned four singles including the UK top 40 hits "Revolution (In the Summertime?)" and "The Pain Inside". Although never reaching the UK Top 50, the album spent 17 weeks in the top 200 in 2001, peaking at No. 82. Steady sales meant that by the end of 2001, the album had achieved silver status (sales of 60,000) in the UK and it was named by Q magazine as one of the 50 best albums of the year. It would go on to achieve sales of over 100,000.

An aunt of mine, who was into the average arena-rock bands of the era, the Poisons, and Motley Crues, recoiled in horror. "That band SUCKS!" she exclaimed. "They'll never amount to anything!" That was her prediction. Of course, they went on to mega-stardom, success beyond their wildest dreams, becoming one of the top bestselling hard rock/heavy metal bands in recording industry history.

A Edible Playlist
Introduction My last playlist was based on anatomy and is linked at the end of this piece. During one of the songs, “Arms of Mary” by The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver I recalled that my favourite song by the Sutherland Brothers was “The Pie” and that might be a good pretext for another playlist. Meet The Humans by Steve Mason
Introduction Someone (probably Marek at RPM) cajoled me into buying this album. I took his advice and may be listened to it once. Steve Mason was a member of The Beta Band who are a favourite of mine and I always loved “It’s Not Too Beautiful” which sampled that swirling theme from Disney’s “The Black Hole” and from that, I bought all their albums.
