Asking Alexandria
If this band rings a bell, you may remember them once again from one of my very first articles. As a quick refresher; "Asking Alexandria" is a British rock band from York, North Yorkshire. Officially formed in 2006 by Ben Bruce, they're still active and running strong to this day. Lead signer Danny Worsnop is arguably their most recognizable member. I have no idea what their name means though sadly and from what I've researched no one really does either. So, sorry if you were wondering if I would explain why they're named Asking Alexandria.

Post-Peakdom Depression
Most artists have a well defined "peak" period in the public unconscious when discussing their work. This series will examine the work that comes after, and whether it deserves it's classification as a lesser work thrown in the "for the fans" pile, or whether it deserves some critical re-evaluation. With Modest Mouse releasing a new single this week, I figured it would be a good idea to begin this series with an album thrown in this nebulous post-peak period, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.

They've been supporting members in various projects, and have now decided the time is right to step forward and take the lead roles in a project they've been visualizing together for years. With the release of the hard-hitting yet hopeful new single "Nobody Knows", Astoria State are ready to take on that challenge.

Teenage Kicks
Teen angst didn't end at nineteen. Although my hormones have noticeably balanced out, and I don't take to crying for hours at a time anymore, I still get that angsty feeling on the bad days. When the melancholy and anxiety hit, I often turn to the solace of music as I have since I was a teen.

Songs of Teen Angst
I’m older then probably most people who write for Vocal (I could be wrong), I was a teen in the 80’s. I’ve always liked rock music, but it got harder as I got older. In junior high I was into bands like Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Twisted Sister, but when I got into high school I got into harder bands Metallica, Megadeth, Testament. Now I still like all those bands, but I’ve gotten into others like Jinjer and Nightwish.

This Band Brought the Concert Experience Back Delivery Style
The need for live music has been felt by many of us. This drought that the pandemic has caused for people; myself included, who used to frequent concerts regularly is real. I’ve been going to concerts since I was a teenager. Saving my money to travel between California and Arizona to see my favorite bands live became a lifestyle that I was not ashamed of. I didn’t care if I’d already seen my favorite bands live twice or sometimes three times in one year. My mom would always say “You’re going to see them again?” Yes, mom! It wasn’t just a want it became a need. I made myself familiar with the barricade and knew the perfect spots to stand where I wouldn’t get sucked into the mosh pit. Tricks and trades you learn as you become a frequent concert-goer.
