Stop Dragging Taylor Swift and Start Supporting the Artists You Do Like
I was at the mall a few weeks ago when I saw something that made my blood boil—a shirt. This shirt happened to have a picture of Taylor Swift on it. However, her image was distorted by flames and words that read, “RIP Taylor Swift,” and there was a faded picture of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in the corner. My brother got a rant from me on the car ride home about that shirt.

An Ode to Klaus Nomi
If I could travel back in time and see one artist or band perform live, it would be Klaus Nomi. To this day, it saddens me that I will never get to see him in concert. Klaus Nomi is one of those singers that not everyone has heard of. Those that know him, know him for his theatrical appearances, wide vocal range, and unusual but delightful music crossing genres of rock, disco, opera and new wave. He was once a backing singer for David Bowie. His only two albums, a self-titled debut and Simple Man, showcased high talent, an open mind, and a delight for listeners who love underground discoveries.

Eminem's Street Cred of Personas
Eminem is one of the most well respected rappers of the 21st Century. He has sold over 100 million albums worldwide (Shady Records). He is known for being a voice of reason of the rap scene and providing not just laughs and tears from his songs but also contemplative theses. In his 2017 album Revival, he displays his thesis of racial equality in his song “Untouchable.” He does this by beginning from a Caucasian police officer’s point of view to draw attention and then ending by rapping his beliefs on what the nation can do to change the disfunction. But why can he, a Caucasian male, release a song at that level of complexity and sensitivity? It is because of his reputation, being the first famous Caucasian to write a song in favor of the Black Lives Matter movement, and his lyrics are full of references and power.

The Loss of Young Talent
Mac Miller; rapper, artist, visionary and prodigy, was found dead last week at his LA home due to a drug overdose. Mac Miller was truly an incredible musician. His music was generally very well received by the public and music critics alike, truly pushing the boat out when it came to traditional hip hop conventions. Mac wasn't afraid to discuss tough social issues in his music and share his struggles with mental health and addiction even on his very early releases. His lyrics are always very real, communicating his true personality rather than a character that many rappers do nowadays.

Thoughts from a Balcony: Missing Mac Miller
Music has always been a healthy dose of vitamins, nutrients, and the freshest sip of water quenching thirst I’ll ever get. I wake up every day wondering if I’ll hear a new song that’ll catch my attention or become my new found obsession... or possibly change my life forever. I start my day off with a proper playlist to begin the day on the right note. It's like the equivalent of a daily morning prayer for me.
