Memoir
Breaking Free
I remember the summer of 2021. Beautiful warm weather, sunny skies as waves crash and mist the air. Life felt simple. Life, felt simple. This was one of the first times in my life that I had felt as though I was truly living my life. Trying new things, doing things for myself, not only doing what was expected of me. There was a change coming.

Close to Home
As my stocking feet move through the hall to Albert’s closet, I am keenly aware I am doing something unforgivable. Reaching onto the shelf, I peer at the tiny letters on the pharmaceutical bottles, looking for the sedative that starts with Z. Here it is. I can smell the persimmons ripening in the next room on the windowsill. Peeking past the threshold and around the piano, I see the ridiculous sign duct-taped below a procession of rotund, orange fruits awaiting their fate. Scrawled in black sharpie, the sign reads, “Do not partake in the persimmons!”

A Story About An ARIES
Aries: The Shepherd I was constantly confused. Fighting myself every step of the way, it was exhausting. After spending so much time being wrapped up in what the others around me wanted that I got caught up in, big time too, feels like I’ve lost almost a decade of my life. My daughter’s life. I’ve battled so many obstical's for this lifetime that if I was a fucking cat I’d be crowned by the pharaohs for being the most infamous of felines. “Always beating the odds on this one,” they’d say some shit like that, definitely. If you’d ask anyone that knew the old me, they’d probably tell you they're glad I’m not dead yet. You could just roll with the religious saying as most people do, “God puts his strongest soldiers through the toughest battles,” sometimes when you're that strongest soldier alone, you tend to forget that phrase. I know very few that could’ve lived the life I’ve lived and be better than me now, with the same or better accomplishments too.

Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall
I love you. I love you for who you are when we're alone together. The way your eyes squint and twinkle when you're smiling. I see the wrinkles that form around the corner of your eyes when you laugh, a sign of your gaining wisdom as you age. I notice how you're conscious about the excessive acne on your face, yet I realise the confidence you possess to carry them around without seeing the slightest need to cover them up with make-up. I don't know many who would flaunt flaws out that well.
