Star Trek fills the sly sci-fi bill for assembling a colorful, iconic cast of Trekkers. Gene Roddenberry’s entertainment legacy is chock full of memorable characters. Household names like Mister Spock, Uhura, or Captain Kirk prompt a friendly smile and fun reaction from most everybody around. We all know the bad boy and girl Klingons. It’s even been said some of the most primitive world cultures recognize actors such as William Shatner as a global science fiction icon. Data and Captain Jean-Luc Picard hailing from Next Generation remain well known by even the most casual Trekkie.

Season One of 'Star Trek Discovery' Lacks a Bit on the Sci-Fi, but Has Laid a Strong Foundation
I watched Star Trek Discovery in the only manner in which the 23rd century is meant to be viewed—on a TV set. So I just got the DVD from the library, I'm all caught up, and I’ll send payment to CBS at a later date. Maybe not but my commentary is more in accordance with a review and hopefully doesn't spoil. I don’t want to ruin it for those who also doubt the fluidity of streaming and paying for Star Trek.

At one point, Star Trek seemed to a be force that you could not avoid, especially during the 1990s. But there came a lull in the star based adventures and fans wondered if the journey had ended. Thankfully, in recent years a new trilogy of films and Star Trek Discovery have reignited the passions of the Federation in many hearts. Now with talks of a new show focusing on Captain Picard, after hanging up his Starfleet Uniform, it seems they are starting to think outside of the Holodeck and coming up with stories to tell that do not require a Starfleet crew. With the Star Trek Universe expanding, here are four other shows that have either been rumoured or wanted by fans.

Review: "The Escape Artist" - 'Star Trek: Short Treks' Episode Four
“The Escape Artist” rounds off a very mixed bag of mini-episodes that make up the first set of Short Treks. After a fun but wonky character piece with “Runaway,” an excellent sci-fi short with only tenuous links to the main series in “Calypso,” and a decent but unoriginal flashback in “The Brightest Star,” Short Treks explores one of the best received guest characters of Star Trek: Discovery.

The third Short Trek is a well-worn but well told story that provides Lt. Saru—perhaps the standout character from the first season of Discovery, and certainly the most mysterious—with an origin story. It's an origin that treads familiar ground for Star Trek, and as such it feels very traditionally Trek, but at the same time, feels a little unoriginal.

My Favorite 'Star Trek' Movie Scenes from the Original Cast
'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' I love Star Trek : The Motion Picture, and the disembark from dry dock always blows me away. In 1979, the ole NCC proudly flashing its titanium left us a gasp. The lighted view, over the new score, gave us the time to pause and take in the Enterprise like we never had before. But what really does it for me is the way TMP feels like a TOS episode, and it begins with Kirk. In later installments, Kirk feels more like a consensus builder who rises only slightly above that of co-leader. In TMP, Kirk commands, and there’s no discrepancy.

The Dax Dilemma
Fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will be familiar with the Dax symbiont, a wormlike entity that joins with a race known at the Trill. After each host dies, the symbiont passes to a new host, who retains the memories of the prior hosts. The Dax symbiont has been alive for over 300 years and had been bonded with four male hosts and five female hosts (as of the final season.)

Seven of Nine Is the Best 'Star Trek' Character. Top Story - September 2018.
Growing up, I was never into Star Trek at all. I knew what it was, I had a basic knowledge of what it was about, but I never watched it. I didn't watch a lot of TV shows as a kid—not adult ones. I liked The Animated Adventures of Batman, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps! I would occasionally catch part of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena: Warrior Princess during their early years, but I was not mentally developed to watch episodic dramas. I was, however, an avid fan of comic books and all geek related things, so by the time I was old enough to appreciate my nerdiness, Star Trek: Voyager was in the fourth or fifth season. I remember seeing a lot of publicity for the character of Seven of Nine (played by the beautifully talented Jeri Ryan.)

'Star Trek: Generations' Gave Us the Captain's Showdown that We Were All Waiting For
Star Trek Generations probably belongs below middle ground among the franchise’s movies. Chatter on Facebook groups seem to agree, but I’m shocked when some level total disdain on The Next Generation's first big screen appearance. As for me, I see the flaws. Nonetheless, I like Generations, and as in any Star Trek film that didn't quite live up, it has more than enough to make me watch.
