Power Rangers Review: "The Wedding (Part III)"

Zedd and Rita's wedding takes place, while the Rangers look to make their escape once again

By Clyde E. DawkinsPublished about 3 hours ago 5 min read

This three-part arc began with a trip to Australia for the Rangers turning into the group being teleported to a theater and battling various monsters, while learning at the end of Part I that their powers are kaput inside that place. Part II would see the Rangers learn the true reason for their appearance: Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa are getting married. The Rangers would escape, but their Zord fight would see them defeated due to their power supply being reduced, and they were sent back to the theater.

While the Rangers knew the "why," they had no idea who was directly responsible for their predicament. They had no clue that the very culprit behind their situation was none other than Alpha 5, the longtime faithful cohort to Zordon. A virus was instilled into Alpha, which turned him deranged and evil, and Alpha not only sent the Rangers to the theater (twice!) and cut down the Zords' power, he also shut down Zordon and also tormented Bulk and Skull.

On to the conclusion, which kicks off with the evil Alpha cackling over his actions. Zordon's gone, the Power Rangers are trapped, and Alpha's happier than a pig in slop. Meanwhile, the wedding is about to commence, but Zedd needed to take care of a few things, namely the music, as he had one of his monsters play the Wedding March. Zedd and Rita say their "I do"s, and Alpha gets the word and celebrates. What follows is a huge celebration following the wedding. Zedd, Rita, various Putties and all sorts of monsters are dancing, except Goldar, who is still trying to process everything.

As for the Rangers, they're fighting Putties at the theater, and we also see Tommy and Rocky out-maneuver Peckster and Rhinoblaster. All the while, Zedd and Rita blast off inside Serpentera, as they are set to go on their honeymoon. Oh brother. The Rangers get away from the monsters and wonder what it is about the theater that blocks their powers. After Peckster teases them some more, the Rangers huddle together and decide to think of a plan to escape. And this is followed by Bulk and Skull deciding to follow a pair of koalas. Very hilarious.

Aisha calls for Peckster, claiming that she wants to give up, but this allows the other Rangers to get the drop on Peckster and Rhinoblaster before they make their way out. Zedd and Rita's celebration is interrupted by Goldar informing the newlyweds that the Rangers have escaped and are headed for the Command Center. Under Zedd's orders, Goldar instructs the monsters to go after the Rangers and keep them from heading to the Command Center. The chase happens, with Zedd and Rita watching and having the best seats in the house inside Serpentera. Rita grumbles over the Rangers getting away, but Zedd says that they'll have a bevy of monsters waiting for them.

The Rangers enter, and Tommy asks the million dollar question: "Where's Zordon?" Alpha does nothing but stammer and make excuses, similar to when a killer is exposed in a whodunit. Billy notices something off with Alpha and offers to help, but Alpha threatens to de-ionize the Command Center if he comes closer. Billy discovers the virus disk and removes it, finally freeing Alpha from the evil control. Alpha wonders what the hell happened, and upon noticing that Zordon's gone, Alpha (in that panicky fashion that we all love) tells Billy that he has to find Zordon.

Zordon returns, and--knowing that Alpha's evil reprogramming and the Rangers' imprisonment had some purpose--asks what happened. Tommy tells Zordon that Zedd and Rita got married, with Zordon adding that the pair would be difficult to defeat as a tandem. The alarm goes off, and Zordon informs the Rangers that Zedd made his army of monsters grow. Now fully powered now that they're away from the theater, the Rangers go back into action and summon their Zords. Lion, Firebird, Unicorn, Griffin, and Red Dragon are summoned, and the five Zords form Thunder Megazord. Afterwards, Tommy calls for the White Tigerzord, which converts into Warrior Mode.

Thunder Megazord and Tigerzord's Warrior Mode are battle ready, but who are they facing? Saliguana, Soccadillo, Robogoat, Eye Guy, Grumble Bee, and Dramole. It's two vs six. The Rangers have one hell of a penalty to kill. The monsters dish it out to the Rangers, but the Rangers gave just as good as they received. After some tit-for-tat, Thunder Megazord and Tigerzord get serious, and they take down the monsters one-by-one. Thunder Megazord's sword took out Soccadillo, Dramole, and Saliguana. Tigerzord's fire power took out Eye Guy, Robogoat, and Grumble Bee. An absolutely great penalty kill by the Rangers!

As for the newlyweds:

"Of all the stupid, idiotic things!" Rita shrieks. "You let the Power Rangers slip through our hands!"

"Silence!" Zedd responds. "You are my wife, and I demand some respect!"

Good luck with that, Zedd. You have a better chance of hoping that the Cleveland Guardians win a World Series in the next decade. Rita swears that Zedd will listen to her from this point on. Yeah, good luck with that, too.

A true match made in, well, I'll let you finish that sentence.

The Rangers return to their vacation, and back at the Command Center, Alpha sees Bulk and Skull and realizes he had to fix that problem as well. Zordon states that the pair wasn't harmed by their trip, and Alpha teleports them back to the vacation site, where they tell each other that nothing happened. Alpha voices his remorse (which is so immense that it could fill up Madison Square Garden at least 100 times) over his actions, but Zordon reminds Alpha that it wasn't the real Alpha behind them, leaving Alpha very happy that he's back to normal.

The conclusion of "The Wedding" served as the 43rd episode of MMPR Season 2, and aired on February 15, 1995. It was in this episode that Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa became husband and wife, and they officially would become the co-Big Bads for the rest of the MMPR run. This was quite the conclusion, with everything wrapped up quite well. The wedding took place, the Rangers escaped the theater for good, and Alpha was back to normal. Zordon wasn't kidding about Zedd and Rita; they would cause a lot of havoc for the rest of the MMPR run. In fact, they wouldn't waste time after this three-parter, but that's another story. Actually, I should say, those are other stories.
