Ryan's Gift
Ryan’s mother pushed open the door to her daughter’s bedroom. The child lay still in her bed, her chest slowly rising with each breath. She smiled softly, taking in the moment. Her daughter slept innocently and she dreaded waking her, yet today was her daughter’s first day of second grade at a new school. She knew how stressful first days were and she wanted to make sure her daughter filled her belly and was fully prepared.

Lacerta
A Junction in the Country The obituaries in a newspaper from Santa Alicia, Texas, dated the first of October, 1948, include the name of Lacerta. The article mentions the fact that no other appellation could be found for the deceased. The person had been known only by the title of Señora Lacerta.

Two Bodies, One Spirit. Top Story - April 2018.
The creature frozen in place lies there on the ground. Breathing slightly, emulating how I felt with the wound in my side. Weak, growing colder by the minute becoming more and more lifeless. I stared into the eyes of the creature, seeing the spark of gold in them now seemed to be fleeting away with every breath that expelled from both of our bodies. I wanted to speak, I wanted to comfort it, for it was obvious that we were connected somehow and knowing that it was in the same pain I was in made me want to take all the pain only onto myself. I wanted to spare this poor creature from the agony, that would lead to a slow death.

Dreams of Darkness: Chapter 1
Chapter One Tabitha woke with a start; sitting up in her bed. Alert. She still tasted the horrid smell of garbage on her tongue; making her stomach do queasy flips. Her head was throbbing and sweat ran down her face. She stretched out her arms and legs feeling the soreness in them, climbing out of bed she winced, it felt like she pulled a muscle in her leg. Tabitha let her black and white checkered cover fall to the hardwood floor without bothering to pick it up. She yawned, while wiping away the sleep from her eyes. She looked at her reflection in the mirror that was attached to the green wall in her room. Her bright orange hair brushed to the left side of her head, blond hair shown underneath the orange, which her guardian didn’t much approve of, but Tabitha loved it. Eyeliner was smeared under her stormy blue eyes from recently crying.

Claire would always remember the day she met the love of her life. It was sunny, warm and beautiful, and while she did prefer cloudy days... there was just something about that day in particular that was different. She fell in love with him the moment she met him. His smile, his beautiful blue eyes, everything about him just drew her in and she couldn't find her way back out. He was everything she ever wanted and needed in another human being, and it was perfect. Up until that day, she didn't really believe in soulmates or love at first sight, but in a matter of minutes she was proven wrong on all counts. He was her other half. She knew that without a doubt. Claire would never forget the warmth of the sun on her face, or the goosebumps when his hand took hers for the first time. It was magical.

My days are numbered. That much I am sure of. Oppressive, artificial heat from above beats down onto my skin. Everything about my life is intensive. I am trapped here, with so many others, whose faces I see one day and they are gone the next. I look across our prison and connect with a mother with blue eyes and long lashes. She's beautiful, and so full of pain, like myself.

Horribly Horrific
Plutarch Octavius was born into one of the wealthiest families in all of Europe. All the other noble families within a fortnight’s journey arrived to witness the birth of a new elite. Plutarch had the blackest hair that anybody had ever seen, eyes that looked like ice, and the fairest skin in all of the country, and possibly the world. Everyone in England with a title knew Plutarch and his family, for they were rumored to be the descendants of an Ancient Roman house. As a youth, he was admired, almost worshipped, by elites. He supped with royal families from all over the world; he was educated by the greatest physicians, philosophers, historians, mathematicians, and holy men. He was destined to inherit the fortune and title of his family, given the fact the he was an only child, and the only child of his father, the sole presumptive of the family’s assets. He was meant for greatness since birth; however, fate took a darker course of action.

One Shark, One Soul, One Shoe
I sit here now, at my old oak desk, looking at the old crumpled newspaper picture. In it I see a fish which now swims along the seabed terrorising other species. To be honest, all I can do is sit now and look at this fish. I catch a glimpse, in a picture frame of my son, of a distorted face with cords of saliva hanging within the thin lips and a chin which multiplied into several more chins. The fish was the thing that changed everything I have today. Where would I be now without it? I don't know. But the memory still haunts me even to this day; many questions cloud my head. Today, exactly fifty years ago, was the day which corrupted everything I have. I take another look at the picture frame, feel the memory snatch my soul, and with a tear running down my cheek, I was gone...

Survival Journal Entry 4
Over the last couple days things have been kind of quiet. Very busy but quiet, which is good. We went up to Big Bear and good news, I held it together. We finally got a trade deal figured out after a couple hours of negotiating. For every 2 pounds of produce, we will get 1 pound of venison. It has been a long time since meat was not a delicacy for us so I am really excited to introduce a new diet into the community.
