A Touching Gift
Glen had always been a bit of a ladies' man. Ever since his first girlfriend, he'd been a firm believer in the "love um and leave um" school of thought. In high school, it caused some trouble. Glen was the handsome football player who went through women like water, and it seemed he was always in the middle of some drama. In a way, Glen guessed he fed off it, loving the attention he got from being at the center of such controversy. As he got older, Glen found similar conquests out in the real world. The car lot he worked at held a bevy of pretty clients, pretty secretaries, and lovely bosses who became far less authoritarian once the bedroom door was shut.

Kin is Kin
The wind blew through the trees, Jimmy watched as the leaves shimmered in the afternoon light. He stood up, stretching his back, shoveling was not as easy as he thought, he stared into the hole, slowly getting deeper and deeper as his father continued to shovel. He watched the pile of dirt beside the hole get bigger and bigger, so big that the dirt would slide down bit by bit. He looked at his father, smiling, his sweat covered brow in a sullen expression. Jimmy continued to help as best as a five year old could.

An Unexpected Gift
Chris saw the drone flying away from his apartment and raised an eyebrow. He hadn't ordered anything, certainly nothing that a drone would deliver, and he came up the stairs two at a time before his crackhead neighbors came out to steal it. Calling them crackheads might have seemed a little disparaging, but Chris had actually come home and found them smoking crack on the front porch, so he thought it more than fair. The Palm Breeze weekly rentals were far from posh, but they were the best he could afford. Chris had a dead-end job that barely paid him minimum wage and hardly worked him part-time these days. He was behind on his rent, looking at ramen noodles for dinner again, and, if he was lucky, he might get halfway through tonight's football game before they shut his cable off.

Hidden Containment
Middle of the night on the front porch lays a wooden box that has a history to it, just by looking at it. Living in the middle of nowhere, where the post office or even any online delivery services are unable to reach. No known neighbors close by or any human able to connect with.

Appalachian Grandpa: The Last Trick of Treater
Grandpa was putting away the candy after I returned from walking Glimmer back into the woods. If Grandpa thought anything about my time with his old flame, he didn't say anything. I hadn't exactly set out to begin a relationship with one of the creatures Grandpa was always warning me about in the woods, but it was something that had just sort of happened. The two of us tried not to rub it in his face, and I got the feeling that it made Glimmer a little uncomfortable if she thought too much about it.

The Night Shift
The aquarium after dark is a magical place. All is quiet, there’s a soft bluish hue emanating from the massive tanks, and every creature emerges from the deepest crevice to bask in the solitude. It’s the best part about being a janitor here. Fish are much better company than people. I’ve learned that during my 45 years of life. The aquarium, my massive ocean on earth. I never would have imagined that my refuge would become my nightmare.
