My First Lesbian Romance
The first time I met her, we were both children. I have vague memories of her in elementary school, a sheepish looking child with wild brown hair and a timid demeanor. The first time I met her and it meant something, I was a thousand miles away. My family had decided to pack up our northern-American family and move us to Texas. It was a decision that would ultimately fail; a year from our moving date we were back to our northern town, but when I met her I did not know I'd ever be coming back.

Back and Forth
When you first come into this world, even before then, genetics tells you what your sex is. The equipment that you're going to supposedly have for the rest of your life. These genetics don't always match what your brain has in store. Who really knows why; because I know that I don't. Maybe it's a chromosomal thing gone array that has yet to be discovered. All I know is, is that sometimes it sucks.Let me clear something up though. Sex is your physical organs. Gender is how you perceive yourself in response with your physical self. Sometimes they match, sometimes they don't. The world still goes on. For me, it's like a two-way street. Sometimes I want to go down Male Street, other days I go down Female Street.

A Christian Advocating LGBT+ Rights
I was never told that homosexuality was a sin. I have no recollection whatsoever of that ever being outright said to me, my parents are generally circumspect in voicing their beliefs and are very generous in addition to that. I certainly never witnessed them, or any of their friends, treating a member of the LGBT+ community any different than they would any other acquaintance. And yet aged 11, upon seeing two girls kiss in a shopping centre, I had a reaction of disgust sufficient that I ended up gagging into a bin. I had internalised, and I still cannot pinpoint the source, although it was probably an amalgamation of scriptural teaching, hushed conversations and society in general, that homosexuality was wrong and disgusting, and I could not understand it. Some of my friends, when I voiced this complete lack of ability to understand, said that was what characterised my heterosexuality: of course I couldn't understand how a boy could love a boy and vice versa, because I was straight; it should be repulsive. I know now that all of us were speaking from wilful ignorance and utter lack of awareness or empathy.
