literature
Whether written centuries ago or just last year, literary couples show that love is timeless.
Sonder
A drop of rain just hit my forehead. I pull the hood of my black sweater up to the edge of my face, tucking my light brown hair behind my ears so as to not get wet. I breathe deeply and pull my knees closer to my chest, resting my chin on the coarse material of my dark, blue jeans. I rock back onto my heels and stare at my broken, beat-up black Chuck Taylor's that I'm wearing without socks.

Until Death Do Us Part
Staring down at the door handle, I wasn't sure what to expect anymore. I only knew that, with the turning of the knob and the opening of the door, my life would be changed for the better or the worst. Funny, how words can have that effect on you—the affect to remember things.

Flip...A Little
From any perspective, an observer could tell what the house represented. This one room shack sat on land that covered twenty acres. The architect, Giles Durcak, had gone mad and made a large house built for only one person to to inhabit. Outside of the domain existed the regular facets of a property worth two million dollars; a swimming pool remained resplendent despite it lacking any water because of the time of year; huge gates rose up to halt any unwanted traffic; shrubbery continued to be well-kept and trimmed. Camera crews from the show Flip...A Little arrived at exactly 6:30 that morning. Still dark out and the autumn wind hinting at winter, the producers and director all tugged their jackets a bit tighter to resist the onslaught of the gusts. Stars of the show, Joceyln Badie and Anwar Scanlan, prepared for sound check and rehearsed their lines in their trailers. They returned outside to face the cameras.

Il Vigneto
Viola hadn’t slept well the night before, she had spent most of the night working through the Mt. Everest of work for the new recruits. She had been working so hard that she didn’t even make it home. She lifted her head for the desk, eyes still closed and a wet patch on her cheek. She felt as though there was a massive weight on her head which prevented her from raising her head too high. She glanced at the clock perched on the wall to see it was reading five in the morning. “Oh damnit,” she sighed “I suppose I better hurry home and get washed up before the next shift begins.”

Those are the times when we can focus on ourselves. We can learn who we really are and concentrate on becoming who we want to be. Life changes for the better: On those days that we only have ourselves to depend upon, we become stronger. On those days when no one else is around to make us smile , we only have our own thoughts to make us happy. True happiness comes from learning to love yourself and not being afraid to make changes if needed.

Stalked
Have you ever loved someone so completely? So much that every ounce of your being belonged to that person? To love so hard is to trust hard. To be in a relationship where you completely love and completely trust one another is hard to find these days. And I was one of the lucky few to find a relationship like that.

Endowed
I’m the girl that goes unnoticed, day after day. The one you silently pass in the hallway every day, her head always down, clothes faded together like the scenery on a foggy morning. The girl no one ever bothers to wave or say hi to, and never hangs out with a group of friends in the hall. I’m the same girl that sits at Jerry’s Diner every night reading a book or writing in a notebook, always alone at the table, sipping on a tea or soda. Although no one notices me, I silently sit and watch others around me. I notice their emotions, and their body language. Sometimes, I can see their emotions, and see their thoughts. Maybe I’m just crazy, but that’s just another thing you wouldn’t notice.

Something Better Than Nothing
To fall in love is a dangerous thing. A numbness consumed her as she stood in the dark doorframe of his old room, her black heels dangling from half-curled fingers. The taint of adolescence was frozen in the scarlet of his walls that she brushed her fingers against, the rich darkness of his carpet her toes curled into, the black and grey plaid of his comforter. She stood for a moment just staring at the bed that had once been his. His home, his room, his past. Everything he had spoken so much about.

Il Vigneto
She ran her fingers through his hair, separating the deep mahogany corn rows. Her fingers gently gripped the ends and her hands found a place on the sides of his head. Excitement gripped her body and she bit her lip slightly. Viola had never expected anything to escalate so quickly. But he was like heroin to her, although she had done her best to suppress the animal within her. She just kept coming back for more.

Most Wonderful Time of the Year (Chapter 4 - By the Cover)
Even rides on the bus took on new meaning, Nathan and I sitting side by side, my head resting comfortably on his shoulder. The Christmas holiday went by much too fast, with Nathan and I spending nearly every waking moment together. I practically live over at his house.

The Makeup (Chapter 3 - By the Cover)
Rose For the rest of the day, I avoided Nathan, darting from lesson to lesson. After the first incident, Nathan didn't show up outside of anymore of my classrooms, but just in case, I decided against riding the bus. Mum, as expected, was late, having been staying to discuss the terms of the promotion in more depth with Keith. I didn't mind really.
