Irony
Sundials and Eggtimers
To the readers. This story was indeed a challenge. The writing style is complicated and with an infusion of absurdity, unexpected humor, and twist, this one got my *hit in a knot. So yes, there is mild swearing and general confusion. But it's how we learn and Improve our writing. Writing is an art, an abstract art, and will convey several interpretations for the reader, peers and judges. Thanks for making this opportunity available for my attempt at finishing before the cut off.

Mother Combs' Garden
One day early last summer, I went outside and worked in my garden, listening to the classic rock station on the radio. Busy pulling weeds and tilling the soil for new summer plants to be put in beds I was soaking up the gentle sun. The weather was beautiful that day, as I remember, and I was eager to prepare the garden for a party that weekend. I was really into the music, singing along where I knew the words, and humming where I didnāt. I didnāt hear the tiny voice behind me.

Another Day at the Office
My ears were ringing by the time I made it to lunch. Cell phone on mute I made it to the local diner with just barely my sanity. Taking a booth I glance at the menu knowing the exact lunch special Iām going to order, with a small glass of wine to ease my nerves.

The Adventures of Ice Cream Man
Have you ever had a lick of ice cream that changed your life?--because I have. I was walking through the park one hot, sunny day when I came across an ice cream stand. I asked the clerk for a chocolate-vanilla swirl on a Belgian waffle cone. Everything changed when I took that first tongue-full. The cold hit me with a brain freeze going eighty miles an hour. I sat down as the world around me swam.

Liver Between the Lines
"Do you deliver after hours?" The other end of the wire hummed a dimly lit, vacuous kind of empty. "Sir or madam, this is a post office." Croaked a young angsty voice through the noisy land line. "We only operate during office hours, not after office hours."
