Balancing Work and Life
We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list. ―First Lady Michelle Obama Many entrepreneurs and small business owners find themselves in a situation where work seems to have overtaken all other aspects of life. Starting a business is exciting and we all know how much time is required to get our businesses off the ground and keep them afloat, especially in the first 3-5 years. And it’s true that a bit of stress can improve our efficiency and thought processes. However, if you’re feeling like your life is out of control, or often feeling guilty for choosing one role over another, or if you’re having trouble with focus or sleep, it might be time to take a look at how your work and life are balancing and consider making some adjustments. Your situation is not uncommon! The Canadian Mental Health Association states that 58% of Canadians report “overload” as a result of the pressures associated with work, home and family,

Questions to Ask Yourself When Planning to Go to College
After you graduate high school, you have one summer left. You celebrate with family or friends, feeling accomplished. You did it! Now comes the hard part: figuring out what you’re going to do for the rest of your life. If you’re not a major procrastinator, then at this point you’ve probably already gotten started looking at colleges, dealing with tuition and finding scholarships to help pay your way through. The rest of the money, you might have to get in Grants and loans and hopefully not get yourself into too much debt. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Dealing with all this can be such a hassle and it can also be extremely stressful. With all this on your mind, it’s a wonder you even have time to think about what you want to do with your life at all. Some of you may not even know throughout your first year in college, but that’s okay! You don’t have to figure everything out right now! Give yourself some time to think about these important decisions that you have to make.

Turn Your Dreams Into Goals
Everyone has a dream. When you were a child, you most likely had a desire to be something when you grew up. A firefighter, a doctor, or a reporter, to name a few. You might have chosen something based on the things you liked to do, or things you loved. In my case, I wanted to be a singer.

Choosing to Work from Home
I'm still wondering how I've determined that the smartest move for my life is to become a stay at home mom who works at home. Even as I sit here with my duct tape-covered laptop while Tumble Leaf plays on the television to distract my kids, I don't understand how I thought this was the best choice for supporting my family.

I'm Going to Walk 600 Words and Counting!
"Are you mad!" Cried the three Borthwright children; as they looked at me after I'd told them that their story was coming to an end. "Who you calling mad? Surely not me." Smirked Tom as he came into the conference room taking a seat next to me. "No!" Exclaimed Stacie. "Lizzy's going to walk 600 words!" Said James, tripping over his words, which I've never noticed him do before, so I made a note to self in my journal. "How can she walk 600 words when she's already done more than that writing the tales of you three?" The two pondered for a moment; then some odd non-verbal talk came from Duncan, which he hadn't done in a very long time. I knew what he meant. "Duncan is right. So's Tom, I have done more 600 words writing the tales of you three" I told them. They were even more stunned that I had just translated Duncan's talk.

Jobs that Don't Require a Degree
While many people believe that you can't start a career without college, there are tons of jobs that don't require a degree. Many people just don't feel like college is for them, and that's okay. So long as you're willing to work hard, there are plenty of high-paying occupations you can take on.

The Gig Economy
"Get a real job!" My Dad used to yell that at me all the time. For the most part I have been working contract or freelance jobs since 2010. There have been times when I have taken on a full time job, or went back part time to work at what used to be a comfortable, safe place for me. Yet largely my income has been derived from freelance gigs. And I'm not alone in this, nearly 70 percent of the workforce is contract or freelance based now.
