The Internet

Consumed

How is it we once went from not having any social media, any cell phones, laptops. etc. To now its something none of us can live without. The Internet and all these new devices are supposed to make our lives easier, but instead it just consumes us all. It consumes us in ways it shouldn’t, for example you have someone trying to have a conversation with you, but all they are doing is looking at their phone. You’re telling me you cannot go a minute without looking at your phone while someone who is sitting right in front of you trying to have a conversation with you?

How about the endless scrolling we all do just because we are “bored”. Did we really go so accustomed to waking up every damn day and think “oh let me check Instagram” or TikTok or whatever the case may be. Or the constant feel to record every damn thing whether it be at the gym, or daily life things. It seems everything has to be recorded in order to prove something to people. Posting everything on social media kids, relationships, work, anything and literally everything. When did it become so toxic and exhausting.

Believe me I use to be that person I am guilty too. But now I could care less about social media. I could easily deactivate anything and be just fine. Because I have more things I need to do in my real life rather than be posting everything online. I’ve come to the conclusion that privacy is power, and not everything deserves to be posted online just because you feel like you have something to prove to the people who follow you. Take a break from it, and enjoy what you have in front of you. Stop allowing yourself to get so consumed by today's society. Put the phone, tablet, or whatever it is down and go read a book. Go take a walk, go to the gym and don’t record anything. It feels so much better when you just do things in the moment without the worry of ” oh let me record this “.

Now a days people make a living of posting everything, and I guess that’s understandable. But what if social media didn’t exist where would they all be now? Personally I would love to see the Internet crash for a day and nothing be working just to see how everyone would react. Would everyone be running like a chicken with their head cut off? Or will everyone finally start doing what they should of been doing all this time. Just living, enjoying the day walking outside or reading a book or playing outside. Like how it used to be when I was a kid. Life was easier when the Internet was not around. It’s built these so called “standards” of how people should look, eat, dress etc. It’s just to toxic and to consuming, but not everyone sees that.

Here is me trying to encourage you to take a break from social media, deactivate whatever it is and just do something else besides looking at a screen all day. The mindless, and endless scrolling give it a rest already. Nothing new and exciting is going to happen on Instagram or TikTok or whatever it is. It’s all going to be the exact same thing I promise you. You will not be missing out on anything special if you decide to completely get off or just take a break. Enjoy your real life, not the one you show everyone online.
