Spending My Seasons with Fiskars
When the hazy warmth of summer starts disappearing, and I can smell the crisp scent of autumn leaves in the air, I put away my sandals and lawn furniture and pull out my knitting, crocheting and needle craft supplies. My favorite part of the cozy fall and winter months has always been crafting! I pass my spare time on cold snowy days with a cup of steaming hot chocolate in one hand and a pair of Fiskars scissors in the other. My projects range from knitted dog sweaters or hats that I can finish in an afternoon, to Afghans that spend an entire season draped across my lap or couch until complete. Between September and February, my hooks and needles are feverishly moving to make seasonal dish cloths, holiday gifts, and items to donate to charitable causes in my community.

The Knitty Gritty
Flash back to a 10 year old me, sitting with my grandma as she put a pair of aluminum size US 10 knitting needles in my hand and a ball of yarn. Like Mr. Miyagi, she taught me to cast on, cast off, cast on, cast off...with a bit of knitting and purling in between. I created my first scarf that summer and, as full of random holes and imperfections as it was, I was incredibly proud and she made me feel like it was the most dazzling scarf she had ever seen.

Collage: A Love Letter
I love collage. It is my absolute favorite thing to do from start to finish. I have had a love of magazines since I was little, so looking through them to find interesting pictures is like a scavenger hunt where I get to make something out of all the things I found at the end. There are many treasures to be found in someone else’s discarded magazines, especially if they are National Geographics. National Geographic features animals and the environment, lots of outer space and technology, and just plain beautiful photos of cultures from around the world. As someone who enjoys photography as well, National Geographics are a dream to look through--and get sucked into the articles. I’ve thought about expanding my photo collection to other magazines, but it just wouldn’t be the same.

A Kentucky gals dream
“A Kentucky girls dream” Ever since a young age I’ve had this incline towards creating, and scissors have always been a part of that process, whether it be scrapbooking with my nana or quilting with my mom, both things I enjoyed very much, however they weren’t my thing! It wasn’t until later in life when I found what truly made me happy, I remember the exact moment I watched my first ever fashion show, the behind the scenes caught my attention and by far in my opinion the best part, watching the creator mesh and mash their image upon a living and breathing canvas was beautiful, the way she would cut the garment too the perfect length and the way it’d flow on stage was outstanding, she knew what she wanted and she achieved that, it was marvelous! The way she brought to life what once was only an image in her mind, had me in complete and utter “aww” I couldn’t help but sit there and dream of what I’d cut and create if I were in her place and that’s what led me to my true passion, Sewing and upcycling times forgotten pieces and bringing them back to life in my vision!

Every Cloud Has A Cotton Lining
The beginning of the project This project really began in the winter of 1998. The Spice Girls ‘Goodbye’ was the Christmas number one, an inevitable decline in song quality that would see them usurped in their festive totalitarianism by Westlife’s 'Seasons in the Sun'.

The Process Is The Passion
Theraputic art especially visual art helps me heal, reduce stress and enjoy more joy, peace and harmony in my life. Collaging helps me increase my creativity, intuition and self expression. I've been using collaging as a tool to envision what's possible and also what's next. When I am cutting images and words out of a magazine to make a collage, I am unlocking the power to wonder. I am willing to exchange old beliefs to curate news ones and process new emotions to release pain and provide clarity.

Finding Zen in Fuse Beads
During the school year I am a very busy person. I am always working on projects, writing emails, or planning events. So when summer comes around, it can be difficult for me to relax. I decided this summer that I needed to find something to do that didn’t really accomplish anything at all--something that would allow me to be productively unproductive and just unwind. As I was trying to find my “thing,” I also began to prepare myself for my summer job.

Some Assembly Required
I was the kid with the coveted Crayola 64 pack of crayons, the kind with the built in sharpener on the box. I’ve dabbled in watercolours, oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, sculpting. I collect art supplies compulsively. I’m a chronic doodler. The margins of my school notes were always choked with half finished drawings. To this day I become gripped by near obsessive creative phases that eventually fizzle out and leave me with a collection of pieces that get given away or sit quietly in stacks between music scores and cookbooks. I always start these phases feeling like I am drawing my ideas from an endless well. I dip my bucket confidently in, again and again, until I hear it thud against the bottom with a dry echo. Then I put away my supplies, take stock of what I’ve made, and wait for the next phase to strike. I rarely return to whatever had once gripped me, with one notable exception. There’s always been something encouraging about the presence of pre-formed elements. Making art with them is not as daunting as painting on a blank white canvas, or sculpting nothing into something. In fact, it’s art that’s already halfway to existing, with some assembly required.
