Sleepless in Park Slope. Top Story - April 2021.
I had big plans for 2020, I mean, didn't everyone? But I don't think you understand, I was turning 40 years old on December 12th and there were so many things I wanted to cross off my list. Things like, travel more, maybe finally bike that 10K I've always wanted to do, and I was going to finish writing my podcast musical. But mostly, I was going to find my soulmate in 2020, or at least figure out why love kept escaping me all these years.

Betty Boo
my partner and I got our first little dog when we first moved in together “Rambo” a teacup chihuahua.. we had always wanted a bulldog but couldn’t afford one, my father in law had friends that breed bulldogs and often had them sent back to them if there was any problems with them, not many people realise the upkeep of a bulldog, scrubbing in between their rolls with a toothbrush to keep them clean, they are not the type of dog that enjoy long walks along the beach, they start foaming at the mouth and are buggered walking not far from your house, they love to lay around and be loved.

Rescue Dog With A Smile
The date was March 19th, 2020 and a stay-at-home order had been declared in California. COVID-19 had already begun to sink it’s spikes into the lives of thousands of Americans across the country, but now it was the Golden State’s turn to take action and, well, mine too. Living on the edge of Angelino Heights, the precipice of Downtown Los Angeles, I was caught between the spillage of Skid Row inhabitants and the skeptical punks of Echo Park that made going outside something I now feared. As someone who prefers the outdoors and lives to interface with strangers and friends abound, this was a type of challenge that required of myself something, something as simple as staying inside, alone and with myself; not completely alone, as I live with my boyfriend, but you understand what I mean. What could be worse than a virus spreading like wildfire in a state used to wildfires than having to sit on the couch and think about my own thoughts? In March of 2020, I would have asserted that nothing could be worse, but with the humbling efforts of time (and the news), I came to know that there are far more treacherous outcomes living in a world learning as it goes.

Khaleesi My Queen
My wife and I started dating in 2016. Now, we had no whirlwind romance. He just had an understanding of how we needed to be together. At the time, I was living with my mother and she was living with her parents. We were wanting a place of our own. My childhood home, which my mother still owned, stood vacant. I begged for months for her to let us have it and she finally gave in.

Four legged love!
Todd, my significant other, and I were living together for about two years when he had a bug in his bonnet for a dog, a pooch, a four-legged friend. My daughter had graduated from college and was out on her own. Todd is divorced with three kids who visit us a few times a month on the weekends. So, at times, the house can get noticeably quiet. I was working long hours and he said it was lonely at home waiting for me. I was working at the hospital full time and then in private practice for an additional ten to fifteen hours a week. There were nights that I would not get home until seven or eight o’clock and he didn’t complain about my working, he just had a burning desire to have a friend to wait with him.

Call him "Lucky" and he will find his path
It was a rainy late winter day, still muddy and cold when something made me look at pages about dog rescue. Due to my allergies I was never able to get a dog and always felt sorry for it. Some might say it was faith, and other’s opinion would be that it was an unfulfilled need, but whatever the reason was, something about that day was different. An image of a dog popped up in my mind and a few minutes later I saw a post from a friend, about a dog in need. No, that post was not about the dog in this story, but was a trigger that made me look into groups and pages on the topic for the next few weeks. I helped some, I sent some donations to others and then I saw “him”!
