My Dog's Birthday Is Today
On September 30, 2016, my boyfriend and I decided we wanted a dog. My boyfriend's reason was to have a pupper to love on and spoil. Mine was to have company and protection when I was home alone. I'm also very phobic of ghosts and I thought a dog would have a sixth sense to warn me if a spirit was following me!

My Bell
My heart... my soul... my Kinobe. My beautiful, loving Pharaoh hound and husky mix was dying. Only six years old and he had kidney failure. There was nothing the vet could do. He had stopped eating and couldn't even keep water down anymore. My tears were never ending as my roommate carried him into the vet's office to let him peacefully slip away. As they were injecting him I just held his face, apologizing over and over. Gave his beautiful face a thousand goodbye kisses. Stared into his golden eyes one last time. We had a connection that I'd never had with any human or animal before. I had rescued him from the local humane Society when he was a puppy, but really, he had rescued me in the long run... Fast forward through the past year and a half, I tried searching for something to repair the giant hole in my heart. There was nothing. No ordinary dog could ever replace him. In every shelter, I searched for a familiar face. Hoping that maybe he was really just lost and I'd find him again. I had reached the denial stage of grief. I figured adding a new dog to the household would help distract me from the loss. Nothing seemed to work out so far. Every possible trail was usually a dead end. I decided to just give up. I'd never find anything like my boy ever again.

The Loss of a Pet
Penny was her name and she was the sweetest puppy that you could ever meet. A mini dapple dachshund, a gorgeous spotted puppy that even had spots inside her eyes. We brought her home from the breeder and it was love at first sight, especially for my 11-year-old. They bonded instantly and what was originally my dog quickly became hers. They spent time together, they slept together, and she was the first thing my daughter grabbed when she woke up in the morning. I would find the two of them watching cartoons cuddled up on the couch. It was truly a sight to see.

I Don't Deserve My Best Friend
I got Memphis in the early summer of 2014, when I was just nineteen. He was just a tiny, nine week old puppy. My father and his girlfriend insisted that getting Memphis was a mistake. My great grandparents were from the old country, and didn't understand the point of owning a dog. Where they were from, dogs were strays and nothing more. Memphis was so much more than that.

Is It an Aggressive Dog, or Just a Bad Owner?
Sadly, many provinces across Canada have areas that ban Pit Bulls – Ontario has them completely blacklisted, excluding ones that were already there. These bans greatly disappoint me as a Canadian from Ontario who adores every dog that will ever exist. Now, Quebec seeks to have them blacklisted as well.

Nice to Sniff You
Hi. I’m Olive. It's nice to meet you! My human companion Amanda told me that I should tell you about my life. I would love to do that. I’m almost five years old and I was born on Valentine's Day! Maybe that’s why I feel so full of love. Hahaha! Anyway, I come from what Amanda calls a breeder. I was a middle pup in a litter of twelve. Before I can even remember, I was given to Amanda. I’m a very important dog, you see. A very good, important dog with a real important job. Amanda needed me to watch over her and help her if she started feeling different. I was very good at my job. Amanda and I would go everywhere together. I am such a special dog. My favorite thing was going shopping at the mall. I loved all the people and smells. I could tell Amanda liked it to. It was always a very long walk.

Meet Loki
Hey there! I have always been dog-obsessed, I reckon so much so that my first word as a baby was probably "dog." I have had dogs all of my life, my first family dog was Chester. He was a beautiful redheaded boxer dog — I myself am a redhead too, so obviously we had a bond right away. I was only two years old when we got Chester as a puppy. Unfortunately, when I was around seven, my parents thought it was best to rehome Chester as he was left alone all day while my parents were working and me and my siblings were at school. Obviously at the time, I really was not happy about this situation, but looking back I know it was the fairest thing to do. Chester went to a home with another boxer dog and a family who had lots of time for him — luckily, we got to visit him sometimes too!

A Doggy Love Story
My family has always had a Golden Retriever as our family dog and even bred two of them for several years. Henry was the male and was always "my dog" as a teenager. I always said that one day I would have one of his puppies. For as long as I can remember from us having golden retrievers, I always wanted a puppy of my own when the time was right and I was capable of caring for my own dog independently. Unfortunately; after several litters of puppies, my parent's female dog Lilly was pretty worn out so my parents decided to neuter Henry and stopped breeding the two of them. I was devastated because I was still not in the right place to care for my own dog and I really thought I had missed my chance of having one of Henry's puppies. Shortly after the two stopped breeding, I moved to Dallas for several years and then to Austin, TX. The only dog I ever got to see during that time were on the rare occasions I would visit Henry while staying in East Texas for the holidays.
