Valentine Again

Here I am again, alone at home,

Music playing, feeding my soul.

Valentine’s Day returns once more.

The stores are crowded with men

buying balloons and flowers

as if love only blooms once a year.

They stand in line for hours.

Every year, it amuses me more

to watch this quiet parade.

I read it in their faces...

the rush to impress,

flowers pressed to their chests.

Nice, I wish I could say I was one of the men at the store but I was also alone :)

Exactly how I feel about Valentine's Day!

As much as I love your piece and believe love should happen everyday, not just be reserved for holidays... I would rather my man show up with flowers or do literally ANYTHING for me on Valentine's Day lol than not. I'd be flattered if he was one of the random dudes scrambling to pick out some arrangement of flowers that will ultimately be thrown away. The idea of him thinking of me is enough. I'm getting tired of being the one who plans all of the things. I decided not to this year to see what would happen. We stayed home lol. Figures. It's depressing sometimes 🫠

    Beautiful!

  • You’re right, they should be thrilling themselves to impress us everyday 😂 jk, great poem!

  • I'm home 'alone' on Valentine's Day again. (Actually, in a way worse than alone because I share a house with my ex!) I very much enjoyed this poem, Ina!!! I love it. I love your observations. I'm disabled and I rarely leave the house. I can't drive. But I was out at Walmart *today* actually, on Valentine's Day, and saw the same mad scramble you describe. What I love about this also is hearing a woman's perspective on this-- watching men. Tomorrow, things will go back to *Normal*. ??? As if 'normal' is even definable anymore. Again: love your PoV here. ⚡💙 Bill⚡
