I grew up in
tropical India
in a rural house
with big backyard
full of mango trees.
Came spring and
the fragrant blooms
made it a paradise.
What joy it was
to walk under that
scented floral haven!
Then destiny brought me
to a foreign land,
a different latitude,
subtropical climate.
No mango trees here.
The plants once I
took for granted
became a dream.
But then, near us,
there are avocado orchards.
There leaves and blossoms
resemble those of mango —
Not the same sweet scent,
yet they quench
some of my nostalgia.
Now I roam near
the abloom avocado trees
imagining it's mango.

Memories are wonderful things, and you have the ability to see things differently to help you survive in many ways. Good job.
