Fake it 'Til You Make it

A moment of consideration upon not getting published.

On a glorious, fresh day,

Under a glorious, warm sun,

Upon the glorious, lush grass

I sit

And skim through another one of my failures.

A fat, black, bumbling fly meanders by;

It reminds me of a film I saw recently

And I think how I am just as sad as that woman

When she stares,

For a single shot of ten minutes’ duration,

Into the abyss.

A fat fly lands on her thick hair.

Today I will pretend to be happy

Until I am happy.

I smile at someone I do not like.
