As I child, I was told that I can be anything
But under rules
They place jewels on my skin
Cut my hair, placing it on a high shelf where I can never see
My wants were delays, and my needs were bothersome
I follow their words, then I trail into unfamiliar words within new worlds
Shoving sin and shame for being a trailblazer
Then, gaining friends, flying with butterflies and moths
Only to turn into flames of humiliation and forgetful memories.
Then, in the darkness, in the back of mirrors, I found freedom
Earbuds and music pouring into my ears, I found peace
Imagines and unknown faces that I created became my world.
Now as they try to rip this piece by piece, I began to lose control.
Putting my new home holes with mud, glass, and soap.
Let my flesh, skin rot, let them see the damage
But arggorant and ignorant
I do not own their blood any longer because I have lost all of my own.
Consumed in darkness, I don't see and feel what I once was
I walked out with more than scars
I left what they wanted, skin and answers
I held tight, stars that they would never understand
The void between my eyes
and lastly a feather, to never forget, regret, or look back at this.

Belle of the Bayou
Bad move, cher. Not just the slip of her kitten heel on the rainy February cobblestones in the Fourth Ward. She got caught snooping. Detective Deleon clucked and strutted like a rooster in his rush to clear her from the scene, waving cigar smoke to and fro as he gesticulated amid the thick air of the speak easy. An experienced crime reporter, Marie knew better than to let the coppers catch her on the wrong side of the line, but curiosity had gotten the better of her.
