Lots of hummingbirds in
this region.
I see them sipping from
trumpet and jacaranda flowers,
perching for rest or,
darting here to there.
If there are so many of them,
shouldn’t I see a nest?
I wished—but was disappointed.
That spring day,
hiking in the oak woodland,
I was telling my spouse—
“I wish I saw a nest…”
As if an invisible god
whispered, 'granted!'—
Just a few feet away,
at my head level,
I saw a cup-shaped nest
embedded to an oak branch.
Camouflaged, crusted with
foliose lichens.
I was thrilled.
It was serendipity!
A dream fulfilled.
I stood there, admired,
took pictures, and left—
without bothering.
I was blessed that day.

Love watching hummingbirds, and I have two feeders hanging along with other feeders for other birds as well. Their nests are tiny and hard to see and find so happy you got to see one up close.
Hummingbirds are just beautiful little birds, thankyou for sharing xx
Oooo, I had no idea that's how a hummingbird nest looks like. So happy you saw it and decided to share it with us! Loved your poem!
A fantastic poem! Great work
