My mind runs marathons my body never signed up for

It’s no fun feeling tired 24/7 yet not being able to sleep

My mind runs marathons my body never signed up for

My mind runs marathons

It races through shadows I cannot see.

Each thought is a footfall on stones of doubt.

Every heartbeat pounds with the weight of unseen miles.

I sit, still, but the ground beneath me trembles.

Air feels thick, like it has remembered all fear I have forgotten.

Words I never said shout in the quiet corners of my skull.

Sleep flees like a stranger who owes me nothing.

I drink water, I blink, I try to slow the pace.

But the paths in my mind are endless, winding, merciless.

And when the sun rises, my body stands, exhausted,

While my mind smiles, already sprinting to the next nightmare.

This poem is so 'true'. Some days my mind just will not work or I feel so tired, but we carry on because we are strong. Thankyou for sharing such a 'real' poem xx
